Q:Do you need to put straw over the seed?
by|Jun 22, 2022

Answer This Question

A:  Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun and Shade Mix can be covered with a very shallow layer of a top dressing such as: Topsoil or other soil like product, Straw or peat moss. Do not cover more than 1/4 inch thick or this will smother the seed. Straw and topsoil may introduce some weed seeds that need to be dealt with when the seedlings have been mowed several times.

Q:can you use this seed in Florida and what can be expected

      Answer This Question

A:  You can plant it anywhere, but it'll require more or less care depending on where you live. Full sun in Vermont is different than full sun in Florida. That goes for full shade as well and for rainfall. Plant it, fertilize it, cover it, water it daily for a month until it is strongly established, then once a week with a good soaking. Don't mow it too short in hot climates.

A:  Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade will mix well in any combination of Bluegrass, Ryegrass or Fine Fescues lawns. This product is not recommended for use in the southern United States as the grasses (Bluegrass, Ryegrass and Fine Fescues) do not grow well in the environmental conditions found in those areas.

A:  April-May is the best time to lay the seed

            by|Apr 29, 2022

A:  You can seed in the fall or spring. In the spring do not apply until soil temperatures are above 55°F (13°C). In spring it takes 2 weeks with air temps consistently in the 60-80°F (15.5-27°C) range for the soil to warm up enough for seed to germinate. Seed in the late summer -early fall when air temperatures are between 60-80°. In fall you need about 4-6 weeks with no frost for seedlings to become establish.
