        Answer This Question

A:  Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade Mix mix will do quite well in full sun environments; however, extended periods of time without water or extended periods of very high temperatures, there may be better blends available. In an areas where there are extended periods of high temperatures (and possibly lower water availability), we would suggest our heat tolerant blue or Pennsylvania mix.

A:  Hi. The blue color coating on the seeds. Is for you to see where you are spreading the seeds. Also a reminder that birds will eat anything especially seeds. But you shouldn't worry to much about that.

                        Answer This Question

A:  Scotts Turf Builder Sun and Shade Mix Grass Seed can be covered with a very shallow layer of a top dressing such as: Topsoil or other soil like product, peat moss or straw. Do not cover more than 1/4 inch thick or this will smother the seed. Straw and topsoil may introduce some weed seeds that need to be dealt with when the seedlings have been mowed several times.

                            Answer This Question

A:  A 20-pound bag of Scotts Turf Builder sun and shade mix might conservatively seed less than one half-acre. Figure 2 pounds of seed to cover 1,000 square feet. One acre covers 43,560 square feet. 20 pounds of seed ought cover 20,000 square feet. Two 20-pound bags should cover 40,000 square feet. If you "feather" out the distribution a bit, two bags should cover one acre.

A:  Scotts Turf Builder grass seed is an excellent product. Very important to do the following to obtain good seed germination and eventual strong, green grass ... * Make certain the ground is tilled to a depth of 3 to 4 inches, this loosens the soil and promotes rapid root growth following seed germination. * Carefully scatter the seeds over the target growth area that you tilled. * Use a rake or tined fork to gently "massage" the seeds into the tilled soil. * Gently but thoroughly water the seeded ground to a depth of about 1 inch. * Water daily, to make certain the ground is damp and help the seeds burst and activate the growth cycle. * If the weather is warm and the soil is warm, the seeds should germinate in about 5 days. * Water as needed (pay attention to heat and dry soil). * An increasingly robust patch of nice, green grass will result.
