        Answer This Question

A:  Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade Mix mix will do quite well in full sun environments; however, extended periods of time without water or extended periods of very high temperatures, there may be better blends available. In an areas where there are extended periods of high temperatures (and possibly lower water availability), we would suggest our heat tolerant blue or Pennsylvania mix.

              Not so great overall
Hit and miss experience..in some areas, we got good amount of new grass, but for the most part, seeds failed to grow.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix and appreciate your feedback. Depending on conditions and the seed type, the grass can take from 6 to 14 days to start to germinate. Germination requires air temperatures consistently above 65 degrees F. Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Cold weather will delay germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. If a weed control is used around the time of seeding, it will either prevent the seeds from germination outright or destroy the seedlings as they emerge. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.
                  Built from scratch
Bought my sun and shade at one of the big box stores for a pretty good price. I was doing a full lawn renovation and took it down the soil. Had mostly weeds before. Planted sun and shade on May 20 2003 and worked on it over the next few months. It’s October 1st today and I’m very pleased. Planted some elite seed in the back from another vendor and don’t really notice that much of a difference.

                    Best seed on the market
Planted Scott's Turf Builder sun and shad a few weeks ago having used different seed in different part of the lawn with poor results. This Scotts grew on concrete where topsoil and seeds spilled over. Outstanding product.

                      Good grass seeds
Seeds show in 8 days. Keep covered and moist. I just used sand worked great for covering.

                        Waste of time and money!
I tilled our lawn and removed the old grass, then spread premium top soil before spreading the seed. It has been getting watered twice a day for the last SEVEN WEEKS! What do I have to show for the expense and effort? Nothing but a few random clumps of grass! I will never purchase another Scott's product! What a scam!

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix and appreciate your feedback. For best results, this product should be applied when daytime temperatures are consistently above 65℉, making the soil temperatures at least 55℉. In the spring, it takes a lot of consistent warm temperatures to warm up the soil. Cool nighttime temperatures can delay the germination process even if warm enough during the day. Germination should begin in 6-14 days under ideal growing conditions and will take about a month to fully germinate. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. Weed control product used on sew seedlings will kill seedlings. Do not apply a weed control that is registered for lawn use until it has been cut at least 3-4 times. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please reach out to us at 888-270-3714 if we can further assist.
                          This product works great!
One month later we have a thick lush green lawn. We did apply one bag of Scott’s Thicker grass seed after the sun shade seed covered most of the yard, just to help fill in thin areas. Definitely recommend that strategy.

                            I don’t think I would buy again
We bought this for our lawn and we have so many huge patches of clover. Did get some grass but also have a lot of bald areas. Majority of what grew is clover though.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun & Shade Mix and appreciate your feedback. Our growing media products undergo composting that kills most weed seeds, however since we do not sterilize our soils some may remain. We chose not to sterilize our soils as this would kill beneficial microorganisms that help the growth of plants. We are able to offer our "weed-free guarantee" by way of our No Quibble Guarantee. Terrible seed, Never Germinated & Waste of Money
I bought a 2.4 lb. bag of the Scotts Turf Builder Sun & Shade mix, placed it on loose soil, tapped it down and watered twice a day for 2 weeks and not one seed germinated. Last year I bought the same product and over-seeded my lawn and bare patches, watered twice a day and I was very happy with the results. In looking at the seed in the most recent bag, I noticed it did not have blue coated seeds. I also noted that the ingredients included over 52% inert matter, other crop seed and weed seed. Very disappointed

                                Winter Yard Is Perking Up
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am located in Colorado. After thatching and mowing the front yard after the winter months we applied the seed. We have sprinklers and have watered twice per day and although I can not see new growth our yard looks better than most in our neighborhood. I think in the coming weeks it will really perk back up.
