DO NOT BUY.
Every piece of hardware in this kit underperformed. The Home Depot apparently knows this, too, and sends out extras of key malfunctioning pieces!
DETAILS:
The suggested pilot hole drill bit sizes are wrong. When screwing down, nearly every screw's driving point got shredded, cheap metal junk screws!
The metal end caps pitted and are discolored.
The "attachment" dongle in the center of the two long pieces was junk--, one of them bent out 6 degrees and had to be trashed.
Nothing was pre-drilled, and at every stage errors were introduced that could have been avoided with better design at the factor.
Why in the world would the endcaps not be pre-drilled?
Why would this company send out cheap plastic drill guides that literally cannot maintain a 90 degree angle?
When the last few screws stripped, I had to use a gold-bitted drill set to expunge the headless screws. Three of my bits were destroyed, one snapped in half, mid-process and plunged into my floorboards. The screw heads themselves went orange-hot and I ended up needing an angle grinder to grind down the pegs on the screws that tore out.
The final product shows flaws at every stage and the final install is subpar, and this is despite careful planning, precision in install.
This project should have been an hour or two in an afternoon. It ended up being 6 hours across two days.

We would like to address some of your specific points. Handrails do not come with predrilled holes as this would limit customers’ ability customize handrail lengths to meet their exact needs. In most project settings handrails are cut down to get the exact coverage needed. Pre-drilled holes would likely be cut off during this process in which case customers would still need to add their own pilot holes again. Due to the differing diameters in pilot holes required for endcaps or handrail to handrail connectors there is no one size fits all solution and could lead to confusion during installation. Giving customers freedom in these choices is critical and allows customers to develop a solution that meets their exact needs.
The attachment dongle you reference (PA98) is a steel core double dowel connector that would require an extraordinary amount of force to alter the 6-degree difference you reference. This is not a common issue as we have not received previous feedback, once again we would be happy to provide a replacement as this may be a QA issue with our factory.
Drilling templates fit securely over the ends of our wood handrails and allow you to directly center any pilot holes to run parallel and directly into the length of handrail itself. We are slightly confused about the need to maintain a 90-degree angle and are open to a more detailed response to understand this better.
We do not believe it is correct to accuse Home Depot of selling malfunctioning pieces intentionally. The majority of feedback received on this item is positive, in situations where difficulties may develop we always encourage customers to contact us directly for assistance. The description of the rail & hardware does not mention that the brackets are a plastic resin ! If the manufacturer had included this info, I would not have bought it!

Wood color did not match picture, much lighter. Mounting hardware was short on screws and was not directly compatible with the rail.

Bad finish; really difficult to install; if cut to size, as advertised, the cut end would be poor; color not as advertised.

Unexpected quality in this item. The strong beech dowel was straight & true and well finished. It was made from half rounds glued together almost invisibly, and that will keep it true thru the years. The pictorial instructions were correct if a bit abbreviated, and a web search for how to install a wooden handrail might be useful.

Don’t know what was mixed up but the brackets were for the rail that had the grove cut down the length in order to slide the brackets into the grove. So either I got the wrong rail (no grove) of the wrong brackets for a smooth rail.

Hello Terrance - thank you for your review. Our PA9 handrail wall mounts are configured for use with both aluminum and wood handrails. You are correct in noting the PA9 wall mounts are designed to slide into the cut out groove found on the bottom our aluminum handrail.
For use with wood handrails you can remove the metal plates on the wall mount (the portion that slides into the aluminum handrail) which will allow the wall mount to directly connect to the bottom of the wood handrail. When the plates are removed you will note the slight curve to the PA9 bracket that enables a secure connection with our circular wood handrails.

Handle is good stable quality just the end caps could fit better, nearly impossible to center them when fixing.

I liked that it was a complete kit with hardware and a joiner. It looks good but one rail is marred by a small but nagging crack that I will need to fill and sand down and refinish. Overall, from a short distance it looks good.

Fine - But a Few Caveats
Pros: It looks good. It seems strong. You don't have to stain it.
Cons: Instructions are bad. It's hard to mount to brackets even if you have gaping pilot holes. No wood crews are provided to install the mounting brackets to studs. I ordered two of the kits as I needed the 79" plus about 60" more. The connecting disc between the two is hard to install and is unable to support the weight of two large pieces (so they tend to come apart). In the end, the mounting brackets are the only things holding the two pieces together (although that does seem strong enough).

The wood railing was good but the kit didn't work...
The wood railing was good but the kit didn't work for the wood railing so we couldn't use most of the kit and had to buy the right screws and brackets. We need to buy the rails for the rest of the house but we definitlty will not buy the kit it was a waste of money and couldn't be returned.
