The trimmer is really nice. But the battery is really bad. Every time after use, the fluid came out of the battery. I’m afraid it won’t last long before run out of the juice. I called Ryobi customer service and the guy answered the phone said there was no fluid in the battery at all! He didn’t know how the battery made off. Hope Ryobi can train their people better.

I really like that its lightweight and easy to use. The edger feature is why I bought it. It edges beautifully.

I don't use it for leaves...
I did not purchase this blower with the intention of using it for leaves. I use it to blow out the garage, trailers, truck bed, etc. I have used it once for leaves and did a respectable job, but it is no gas blower replacement. t cleans the grass clippings off of a mower deck well if they aren't dried onto this deck. Blows grass off the driveway and walks very well too! 4ah battery lasts about 25-30 minutes.

    Terrible design flaws
Three out of the first four times I've used it either the string or a loose wire from my yard has been caught and wrapped around in the top part where there is no easy way to unwind it (see pics). Each time it took me an hour of taking apart the entire head in order to get to where the line / wire was wrapped around in order to get it unwrapped. There is no easy way to fix something that seems to happen often. I also think the line feed design is really bad and wastes a ton of line.

Hello, Daniel - We're disappointed to read about the difficulty you're having with your trimmer! Auto-feed string trimmers are designed to release about a ¼ in. of the line every time the trimmer's trigger is released. And if a user squeezes and releases the trigger continuously, then more and more line will advance, which can lead to wasted line or tangles. So we encourage you to be mindful of this and avoid repeatedly squeezing and releasing the trigger. If you would, will you please be looking for an email from us at Reviews@RYOBItools.com? Let's connect so we can work this out together! RYOBIOutdoorTools

      Great trimmer, but...
Great trimmer, battery lasts a long time, but the automatic feed definitely does not work - at least not on the one I have. When you pull the trigger the line is supposed to automatically feed. So, I'm back to lifting up the trimmer and manually feeding the line. My only real complaint. I just got the trimmer and used it on my entire yard. From the photo, you can see if got a great amount of use. Just wish the automatic feed worked.

        Replaced an older modle
Bought this to replace a sixteen year old Ryobi that would not feed line correctly anymore. Probably could have obtained spare parts, but I thought I deserved a new machine after all this time. Picked the model that came with the 4ah battery because it was more economical than buying them separately and I wanted another 4ah battery to replace a 2 ah that had finally died. I can use two 4 ah’s to complete my trimming in our large yard. The secret to keep the line from feeding more than necessary is to not release the switch until absolutely necessary; by holding in the trigger while switching from right to left hand and back again is to keep an index finger on the trigger and ease the rested finger onto it. Hope that makes sense. Speaking of trigger: I like the newer safety switch compared to the previous one that was mounted on the side of the handle.

Good variable speed blower that's easy to use
We have lots of trees in and around our house (including all the neighboring trees that blow into our yard) so having a good leaf blower is a must for us. This has a variable speed making it easy to adjust the air flow when getting around flowers. This blower comes with the battery and charger and a three year warranty making it another great Ryobi tool. It is quite powerful with 325 CFM and 100 MPH to make clean up a breeze. It also works great blowing out the garage from driving my car in and out of the garage throughout the week and all the debris that blows in on these windy days. It’s a great time saver from having to sweep it out.

As a trimmer, 3 stars. As an edger, 0 stars.
As a trimmer, 3 stars. As an edger, 0 stars. This combo trimmer/edger is about the same size as the last one I had, but slightly heavier, due to the battery size. It is perfectly manageable for the average male or female. Unfortunately, other than that, it has only a couple of things going for it. It works well enough on the “trimmer” setting provided that you don’t release the trigger too often (for the reasons described later). I used it at my mom’s house on a large patch of tenacious weeds at least 30 feet by 120 feet that the lawn service had been avoiding. The weeds were about 10 inches high but in a shady spot, so they were not particularly dense. The trimmer worked well for a good hour, whacking down the weeds, and never really losing any power until right before the battery went dead. On the “edger” setting, though, it is absolute torture. It is without a doubt the most frustrating tool I have ever used on my lawn. For starters, it is not a very smooth transition to switch it from a trimmer to an edger, or vice versa. The foot pedal is a joke. I found it to be completely useless. Every time I want to switch modes, I need to turn the whole tool upside-down to make the change. And the claim that “Every Trigger Release Advances String” is totally false. This last time I used the tool, which was only the fourth time overall, it would go no more than 15 to 20 seconds at a time before I would have to manually refeed the line by, again, turning the whole tool upside-down, taking the spool assembly apart, and rethreading the line back through the little hole. I think the problem is that the specially “twisted” Ryobi line gets stuck on itself within the spool, which prevents it from advancing as it should. Then the little stub retreats back inside the spool and cannot find its way back out. So you fix it, and then literally 20 seconds later, you have to do it all over again. At this rate, my lawn takes 30 minutes to cut, but 60-plus minutes to trim and edge. No thanks! As if that isn’t annoying enough, the spools don’t last very long. My property is pretty small – only 50 feet by 60 feet. One spool lasted for only one single trim. After the first time I used it and ran out of line, I purchased additional Ryobi cartridges, thinking that maybe the trimmer came with a “starter” spool with a shorter amount of line – but that was not the case. Even with the new spools, each one lasted for only one trim. That’s more than 5 bucks’ worth of line each time I use the trimmer. Ridiculous. In the end, while it did do the job edging, it's just not worth the time and angst. I felt like I was talking to a bad boyfriend the entire time I was using it: “I hate you. You are the worst! Do I have to do everything myself? Stop being difficult!” My neighbors probably think I’ve gone bananas. I mean, I’ll keep the battery and charger to use for my other Ryobi products, but I am absolutely done with using this tool.

This blower is becoming my go to blower for all chores
I got this blower to replace an older model Ryobi P2107 that I used to blow the concrete drive and walk at my mother in law's home. To my surprise, this blower has almost as much power as my gas blower and is becoming my go to blower for almost all my chores - large and small. It is easy to assemble and comes with a 4 amp battery with charger - once charged, it is ready to go right out of the box. It has plenty of power and is well balanced. It has an easy access variable speed trigger which is convenient and comfortable. With no gas or pull start issues, this blower is quickly replacing my gas blower for all my chores. One note to Ryobi - the trigger has a tendency to stick causing the motor not to cut completely off - not an issue just an observation.

Ryobi 18V Cordless Battery Variable Speed Leaf Blower with Battery and Charger
I wanted to replace my old gas leaf blower to a cordless battery type and the RYOBI Jet Fan Blower fit the bill! I wanted something that was powerful enough and light weight enough to handle. The Jet fan can deliver a maximum of 325 CFM and up to 100 MPH, and with that type of CFM it can move leaves/grass very easy. The unit has a variable speed trigger so when I am around the rose bushes and rose tree, they don’t blow the peddles off the stem. It does come with a battery a 4.0 Ah and a charger. The balance of the unit is pretty good so you your wrist will be over tired if you use a longer period of time. One thing nice it that battery is compatible with all my Ryobi products. It comes with a 3-year limited warranty. A very great product from Ryobi

Super Easy to Use. Well Designed. Quiet. Great Battery Performance.
Very easy to assemble, charge- install & remove battery & use. Very good performance. Comfortable handle & trigger. Well balanced easy on the wrist and arm w/ variable speed jet fan concentrated discharge- allows excellent control. Selected for the versatile 18 V battery and Ryobi’s well known, reliable reputation. My wife liked the quiet, lighter weight ease of use for cleaning the drive, entrance & patio (including furniture) of spring pollen & tree litter. Ryobi’s 100 mph 325 cfm blower is probably best considered a medium capacity blower- lighter weight & cleaner operation justifies the reduced blower capacity. As does the ease of use, lasting battery power and quieter operation- an awesome all around blower. Great for blowing clean garage, entrance areas, cobwebs and debris from foundation, gardens, patio and drive. Quick & easy with far less hassle than any gas blower. A RYOBI ONE+ 18V Battery’ & tool is a great choice for homeowners. Option to purchase other tools only, allows more efficient economical use. Blower performed perfectly, easy to use, balanced design & battery function for two weeks homeowner use. Now our go to blower for outdoor cleanup. Economical superior clean quiet operation with powerful performance plus a 3 yr. Limited warranty & 90 day return policy make giving Ryobi a try- the choice for cordless tools. Highly satisfied & recommend Ryobi.

Great concept, poor realization due to auto string feed feature
I ordered this trimmer/edger with high hopes for a tool that has more than one function. I went to work using the trimmer configuration as soon as I got it out of the box and charged the battery. It worked great! It was nice to have the automatic line feed instead of the old “tap and go” line advancer so that I didn’t look like I was pounding a snake to death in the grass. I was working in some pretty heavy grass in a ditch so I could hear the line advancing as I worked. Unfortunately most of the line on the spool disappeared as I cut. When I went to replace the line I realized that it would be easier to replace with a pre-wound spool instead of reloading the spool as I was used to doing. Pre-wound spools were cheap so I didn’t mind. I found that another negative was the weight of the trimmer head, I had forgotten this characteristic of electric trimmers. By the time I finished the ditch my shoulders felt like I had been swinging a bush axe! I decided to try out the edger function. It was very easy to change over by pressing the pedal and rotating the trimmer head. I can see that the wheel may interfere with rotation of the head as time goes on. However using the edger was excellent. It cut a very straight but shallow line thru centipede grass. Unfortunately the automatic line feed was a problem again. By the time I had edged about 20 feet along my driveway the string was used up. I believe that this trimmer/edger is a good idea but the automatic line feed makes it nearly unusable. Would I recommend it? That's a big maybe. Perhaps with more practice I’ll get better at it.

          Really is a Jet Blower
RYOBI P21130 18v JET BLOWER This Ryobi P21130 18v Jet Blower is a tool that can clear you patio, walkways and driveway in a jiffy. The 29 inch blower is well balanced to be used easily by almost anyone. The 325 cubic feet per minute blower is easily controlled with its variable speed trigger to a top output, that's rated to 100 mph. Strong enough to grow that leaf stack as tall as you want it, or across the yard, if that's where it really needs to go. The included 4 amp hour battery can clear some serious square footage. The jet output design really does make a noticeable difference when it comes to delivering the air where you want it. This is a great addition to your lawn and garden care arsenal.

Excellent 18V ONE+ Blower Kit with 4 Amp Hour Battery & Charger
Yes, I'm that neighbor. The one down the street that mows the lawn or is working in his garage after work. I needed something quieter and in-between my gas powered blower and the 12V hand-held shop blower I use to blow sawdust out of my garage after 8PM. Enter the Ryobi ONE+ 18V 100 MPH 325 CFM Axial Jet Fan Blower Kit. The Kit includes a 4 Amp Hour 18V Li-ion Battery and provides the solution I need. Enough power to blow off my driveway without being as loud as my gas blower. Interesting choice for Ryobi. This fills a different niche than the more expensive Ryobi 40V blowers. I already have several Ryobi ONE+ 18V batteries and tools and this is a welcome addition to the pack. The blower is simple to use, balances well in the hand, and the variable speed finger trigger is very natural. 5 Stars for a well made, easy to use, effective tool at a decent price point.

          Well done leaf blower...
RYOBI ONE+ 18V 100 MPH 325 CFM Cordless Battery Variable Speed Jet Fan Leaf Blower with 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger replaces one I've been using in the backyard. This is a good leaf blower, light weight where some others are awkward and heavier, the right size anyone can use comfortably. The handle, located on the top of the tool, is easier to carry and in directing air. In this position holding is better balanced.. It has a variable speed trigger that works smoothly and with the highest setting is powerful. This is partly because of the jet fan air pass through design. The design reduces obstruction in air flow. The noise is not bad, but does get louder at the highest speed. It's nothing like my neighbor's that uses gas and makes a racket when he's out blowing leaves. This is a powerful blower moving debris, just remember to keep the nozzle exhaust close to the ground. The point is to move debris into a pile to bag it, not blow it across the street. At maximum speed, it can do some of that, too. My personal test isn't leaves, but small twigs or pebbles to get them moving along the ground and on high this blower is fine. A lesser blower I owned failed that test so I now have one that can do it. It comes with a large 18-volt 4.0 Ah battery and the newer, smaller sized, charger from their earlier ones. Finally, The blower comes with a hanging hook to mount it on a wall for storage, or if you leave the battery in place, and stored standing straight up. It has a three year warranty.

Great edge trimmer, Great concept: One Battery fits Everything
I really like this Trimmer/Edger. Having one rechargeable battery type (18V/4Ah) that fits all of the One+ power tools is easy and convenient. It was easy to assemble out of the box (about 10 mins), and the battery charged in just a few hours. FEATURES I LIKED: - The unit is relatively light and well balanced - Dual speed capable. - Battery Run time: about 1 hour. Usually enough time to trim an average size suburban lawn. - Rotable motorhead (horizontal and vertical): … so you can trim around trees, fence posts etc (horizontal mode)…or you can edge your driveway and sidewalks (vertical mode). - The head can be easily rotated from horizontal to vertical using a foot pedal on the back of the motor head. - It has a guide wheel on the head to help you make consistently straight cuts. - Automatic line cutoff blade keeps the trimmer string trimmed to 11in. or 13 in. (adjustable) - Auto line advance. This unit advances the trimmer line in ¼ inch increments by stopping/starting the switch trigger (see instructions). DO NOT try to advance the line by “bumping” the head on the ground (as is common technique used in older trimmer models). - The only expendables needed for this unit is some occasional silicone spray for some of the moving parts, and replacement line spools which are available for about $11/spool (9 ft length). Spool multipacks are available in 1,3,5, & 10 quantity. - Easy to follow instructions OVERALL: I like this trimmer. Being able to “borrow” batteries from other One+ tools is a great time-saver in the event you run out of juice midway through your lawn trimming task.

unique new foot-tilt feature, well balanced, quiet, automatic string entension and auto-trim
Assembly was easy and fast! Push the extension into the other pole; two screws hold it in place. The guard is held by three small screws and lock into place automatically thanks to recessed cups. You only need a phillips screwdriver, nothing else. Weighs about 10 pounds with a 4aH battery. The big battery makes it feel lighter because it balances the business-end. I show that in the photo where I hold it with just two fingers. It gets up to speed almost instantly. Runs fairly quietly: at around 87 decibels, WAY quieter than our neighbors noisy stinky old gas machines. (WATCH my SHORT 8 second video to hear it in action.) Has plenty of torque to cut weeds, grass and even some small saplings. Comes with the string installed. Replacing the string is easy and fast. It holds about 13 feet of trim-line. One feature I really like is how it extends and cuts the line automatically. You don't need to "tappy-tap-tap" all the time. Just pull the switch, the line extends a little bit and trims automatically. A unique new feature is the foot-operated "tilt-to-trim" position. ( SEE PHOTO) Just step on the foot pedal; the head rotates 90 degrees. The wheel supports the trimmer and helps guide it. That makes edging much neater and easier. That also makes it easier to stand out of the flying-debris-path. I still wear safety goggles, but now I'm not covered in grass clippings! Nice. On thick patches of grass this tends to slow down a bit, but that doesn't matter much for small jobs I do at home. A professional might need more power for bigger jobs. I don't. Battery life is plenty for our yards and walkways. We use this at our lake property which has four-hundred feet of walkway from the garage down to the pier. I get done in about 20 minutes and the motor still runs strong with the 4aH battery. Ryobi chargers do more than just charge the batteries. They monitor and maintain battery health. Ryobi batteries have proven to be reliable in all our Ryobi tools. I have about thirty Ryobi tools, some of which we've used for ten years or more. I attribute much of that to Ryobi's smart chargers. Overall, I rate this string-trimmer quite high for ergonomic features, reasonable power and reliability. It is definitely a "best value" tool that's well-suited to homeowner's needs. A professional might need more power for bigger jobs and daily use. For this practical homeowner, Ryobi is my first choice. They have never let us down.

          Nice blower
The Ryobi 18V Cordless Jet Blower sold by The Home Depot does the job. The blower is light weight and well balanced at the handle for less arm stress. I like that it has a veritable speed trigger so you can blow the small sticks and leaves off without disturbing the mulch. The kit also comes with a battery and charger so no additional items are needed. The battery charges in the normal amount of time, and it is a plus to be able to see how much charge is left by the LED indicator lights. All and all it’s a very convenient product that doesn’t use gas and comes with a three year warranty.

          Great for light work.
This Ryobi Leaf Blower is a smaller, less powerful version of other Ryobi Leaf Blowers. It jets out air at 100 MPH / 325 CFM, which is good for clearing sidewalks, driveways or patios of leaves, grass clippings or twigs. It has an easily attachable blower tube which can be removed for storage. I like the variable speed trigger switch which lets me control the rate of air speed. It is powered by the Ryobi One+ 18 Volt Battery which is included along with the charger. This Leaf Blower is easy to handle, well built and carries a 3 year warranty..

          A Perfect Leaf Blower
My leaf blower needs are not huge, and this Ryobi blower is perfect for me. It is shorter, yet extremely powerful because of the jet fan design. I was impressed with its power from the first time that I turned it on. I also like the sensitive speed trigger which allows variable speeds. This will help me clean out my flower beds without disturbing the mulch or the plants. The blower comes with an 18V battery and a charger, which are not included with all leaf blowers. That saves me the expense of buying them. With a 3-year warranty, I will not have to worry about the blower breaking down anytime soon. One of the things that I also use a blower for in the early and late parts of winter is blowing powdery snow off of the sidewalk and driveway. I know this is not the purpose of a leaf blower, but if the snow is light or powdery, it is a perfect tool to save me time and effort.

Great addition to the RYOBI ONE+ Line Up!
Battery-operated lawn equipment has jumped leaps and bounds in recent years and RYOBI is a leader with its ONE+ System of tools. This string trimmer/edger fits in well for the average homeowner with a lawn to trim and a sidewalk to edge. The unit comes with a battery and charger and both are part of the RYOBI ONE+ system of tools so you can get their other tools to work with this battery system. It's convenient to have a system like that so you have one interchangeable set of batteries for your tools. Some assembly is required for this edger, but nothing major. You should have it together in fifteen minutes or so. It's a typical assembly in that the handle slides together, then the hand guide snaps on and screws tight, followed by the string guard attachment. It's all easy to manage. RYOBI did add a clever feature for its edger/trimmer head. They added a foot push pedal release that allows the unit to flip sideways to do the edging part of the job. It works very well and simply turns back into a normal position when your edging is finished. Battery equipment has advanced so much in the last couple of years and it's great to see an established, trusted company like RYOBI offering a complete line of very helpful tools like this stringer/edger for the homeowner.

No more extension cords or gas/oil mixture!
I have a variety of trimmers, but now have my new "go to" trimmer and edger! This is a nicely balanced design and comfortable without any type of shoulder strap. Included 4.0 Ah 18-Volt Battery and charger adds to my arsenal of power sources for my growing collection of Ryobi ONE+ tools. Assembly is pretty easy - 2 screws to attach the upper and lower portion of the handle; 3 screws to attach the grass "deflector"; and one wing-nut to tighten the "d-shape" handle. The auto-feed works well. I think it will go through a good amount of trimmer line, as it advances with each pull of the trigger vs. feeding when cord is used/needed. Product is typical Ryobi quality and I'm expecting this will get a regular workout throughout the growing season. Two "green" thumbs-up!

Gets the Job Done without Cords!
I ordered the ONE+ 18V 13 in. Cordless Battery String Trimmer/Edger with 4.0 Ah Battery and Charger to replace an earlier version of the String Trimmer/Edger I’ve had for seven years. The reasons for replacement are: 1. The blade that cuts the string in the housing fell off somewhere in use and for two seasons I have been searching for a replacement online with no success. The problem is that when there is excess string it will have a tendency to get tangled between the drive rod and string housing causing sometime lengthy delays in un tangling it. The new model’s cutting blade seems identical to the one I lost. 2. The foot operated mechanism for switching from Trimmer to Edger finally quit working requiring the position of the string head be switched by hand The good news is that the old model is otherwise working great. The motor gets the job done as well today as on the first day I used it. I still have the original battery which is doing extra duty with the other Ryobi batteries in my shop. That is a testament to the quality I expect in my new one. The basic design hasn’t changed much which is mostly a good thing. The lack of any improvement in the string cassette is disappointing as installing new string is difficult and tedious. It would pay dividends to develop a sure-fire way to re-string the cassette early to avoid frustration while learning the way to do it while in the middle of a job. I will be checking the cutting blade regularly for tightness to prevent it from coming off and getting lost. The Plusses I appreciate most for the ONE + are 1. Long battery life with the included 4 Amp-hour battery. My old one came with a wimpy 1.3 AMPH battery. I soon invested in the larger battery. 2. Compatibility with my other Ryobi 18V batteries 3. Switchable modes with a foot pedal 4. The wheel to guide the edger for a professional looking precise edge 5. Decent power and torque for heavy grass and weeds 6. Auto feed feature; although this takes some getting used to because it feeds whenever you release the trigger and re-engage it feeds string. As a technique I keep the motor running until the pitch of the string spinning indicates it needs more length. This technique encourages a quicker job to save battery Overall, happy to have a fully functional Trimmer/Edger: Cuts Great, Decent Battery Life, Ergonometric for my build.

This trimmer is powerful and quiet. It does a great job of cutting grass and weeds
The Ryobi trimmer was very easy to assemble. I kept the cutting width at the factory setting of 13 inches. You can rotate the cutting blade to cut the trimmer line at 11 inches if needed. The parts of this trimmer are of high-quality material and very well made. The trimmer has a solid feel to it after assembly. The trimmer has a rotating trimmer head that allows it to be used for edging your sidewalks and driveway. The grass deflector has an attached wheel that helps with the edging function. But there are two features missing from the trimmer when using it for edging: An Edge Guide and a depth setting which is found on most lawn edgers. The wheel helps you create a consistent edge but it takes practice. It is easy to hit the sidewalk or go away from the edge of the sidewalk just using the wheel and line of sight to control the cut grass edge. However, even without these two features, the twisting head and wheel on the grass deflector are an improvement over a standard trimmer turned sideways to edge a lawn. With the battery installed, the trimmer is well balanced and much lighter when compared to my gas trimmer. The variable speed trigger makes it easy to control the cutting speed. The trimmer can use two different diameters of line, (0.065 round or twisted and 0.080 twisted diameter lines). This trimmer uses a unique auto-feed trimmer head. The line will extend approximately 1/2 in. with each stop and start of the trigger. Repeat pressing the stop and start trigger until the line is long enough to reach the cut off blade. You may want to practice using this feature to eliminate wasting trimmer line. There is also the option of advancing the trimmer line manually. The instructions recommend buying pre-wrapped trimmer spools and replacing those when you exhaust the trimmer line. I think you should be able to re-wrap the line manually on an empty spool, but I don’t know that for certain. Ryobi included a 4.0 Ah battery with this trimmer which should give you plenty of trimming run-time. The charger and battery are part of the RYOBI ONE+ system. Buy this trimmer for the great job it does trimming grass and weeds and use the edging feature in a pinch. But, if you have a lot of edging to do, you will want to get a dedicated edger.

My Review for RYOBI ONE+ 18V 13 in. Cordless Battery operated Line Trimmer works extremely well. It is easy to assemble and is well designed. It does have one design flaw that keeps me from rating it five stars and that's the fact that the Wheel on the weed whacker cannot be adjusted to raise and lower the cutting line a little bit. On the first three swipes of the Weed Whacker I broke the line off and had to hold the cutting head up away from the ground a little bit to avoid anymore breaks but after doing that it worked great and my pictures below show how well it cuts the edge of flower beds etc. The automatic line extender works really well on my first use and continued to works time went on, it's a really nice feature.

          Very well designed
We were in need of a trimmer and we wanted to go with a cordless one. This trimmer was very easy to put together. I was impressed with the heft of the trimmer. The battery is in the ideal area in my opinion. It handles well and I could have cut for a much longer time, but right now I don't have a lot of vegetation to deal with. Along with the battery, I liked the foot switch to change from trimmer to edger.

          I love this trimmer!
Ryobi has become my go-to for cordless lawn equipment. I am VERY pleased with their products - power, durability, design ergonomics and all-around performance. This trimmer is the best I’ve owned to date. Love the foot lever for rotating the cutting head to edger mode. Nice big wheel makes edging with the trimmer easy and accurate. The spindle has only one line but it is thick and durable so it last long. Very happy.

Nice powerful trimmer with good options
This lightweight battery powered trimmer is actually quite powerful using the 18 V system from the vendor. It has a tilt head which is activated by using a foot pedal to release the head enabling it to turn 90゚ on its side, thus making it an edger with a wheel guide. The wheel guide is very nice and that it gives you a steady platform to keep from hitting whatever you are edging around. In my case, we have lots of papers which need edging regularly, and also chain link fencing. Without the edger I have to depend on my steadiness to keep this string from hitting the pavers and fencing a lot. When it hits those items, it almost always bites off a substantial amount of the substantial amount of the string causing me to use excessive string. But the wheel makes that much much more easy to do keeping it from hitting those string eating obstructions. Eating obstructions. This is not a bump head to advance the string trimmer. The string auto advances about 1/2 inch when you let off the trigger and restart the trigger. So you might try not to start and stop it a lot to keep the string usage to a minimum. The school is either replaced by buying extra preloaded spools or rewinding string by hand. I usually rewind by hand which is a bit slow, but works OK. This unit also only has a single string for cutting which makes it easier to reload. I can highly recommend this trimmer edger due to the nice functionality of it and its lightness.

Great tool for occasional home use
This is another highly desired battery operated tool from Ryobi. I was tired of messing around with a gas trimmer AND a separate gas tool for edging so I decided to go with a trimmer/edger powered by the powerful Ryobi line of batteries. Not only did I eliminate the mixing of oil with gas, the frequent hard starting, the smoke and most of all the exhaust smell by converting to Ryobi battery operated tools but also the expense of purchase and operation - these tools are very easy to maintain and will give years or nearly care-free operation. Overall, I am happy with this trimmer/edger and would recommend for home use. It does have some limitations and areas of concern at least for me. I don’t believe the tool is intended for commercial use and would not last long in that environment; however, considering the very reasonable price, it is a great value for home use. The 11” or 13” string length is determined by an adjustable “cutter” attached to the housing. The string feed is operated by the variable speed trigger which will advance the string in 1/2” increments each time the trigger is pulled from the off position (initially I wasn’t a fan of this process but after I got used to it, it became less of a concern). The string advance can also be done manually by pressing a release button and pulling the string out. Switching from trimmer to edger and back is very easy just by pressing a lever – again it took me awhile to get used to it. As stated earlier, I would recommend this tool for occasional home use.

          Easy to use
I received my RYOBI 18-volt string trimmer/edger today; it was easy to assemble and came loaded with trimmer string. You can buy preloaded reasonably priced string cartridges, making it an easy task when you run out of line. This trimmer only weighs 7.5 pounds (about half the weight of my gas trimmer). Overall, I like that you can push a foot pedal to put the trimmer into the edging mode, the three-year warranty, and the auto line feature. This trimmer is probably the most uncomplicated lawn tool I have ever used.
