so far it seems to be meeting our expectations. really like the smart nature of the self monitoring, letting us see codes for possible issues. wish the fault codes list was not almost on the opposite side of the tank from the gas controls

Poor product, poor customer service.
10 days old. Damper has quick working 3 times. There are no Rheem dealers in NASHVILLE TN they say. This thing is junk. I should get my money back and for the plumber who installed it. Get a simple hot water heater. Not one with these fancy savings they say it will be on it. Rheem customer service doesn’t care. Sadly my heat and air units are RHEEM and been fine since we built the house.

    My original water heater was 24 years old and started...
    My original water heater was 24 years old and started to rust through on top. I decided to replace it and carefully researched current heaters. I wanted to purchase at a store near me and it ended up being Home Depot. I installed this heater February 2022 and in December 2022 it started leaking at the bottom. I can't figure out why unless I cut open the heater but I was advised not to do so and mail it into the factory!! I don't think I get reimbursed for shipping. The wood floor in my hallway had to be replaced. The house wasn't built with a drain system in the water heater closet and I was planning to install one but procrastinated. I thought I had plenty of time and knew I'd get around to it eventually. Well, I really didn't expect it to leak within months of installation, but this unit must have contained a manufacturing flaw; nothing visible from the exterior, it looks just fine externally. The heater was working just fine and I was very happy with it. This must have been a 'oneoff' rare failure but it happened to me.

    Nothing but trouble
    Save yourself a huge headache and do not buy this or any rheem water heaters. The warranty isn’t worth the paper its written on. 1-1/2 years after installation and it constantly dies. Finally make a warranty claim and after sitting on terminal hold for 30 minutes they tell me that a repairman will contact me within the next day. Instead i receive an email telling me that there are no repairman in their network that are close to me. (I live in a large metropolitan area with thousands of plumbing companies.) with instructions to hire my own plumber to come and fix their defective product which i am to pay out of my own pocket and rheem will then reimburse me within 30-60 days with a maximum $175 to cover diagnostics plus repair. Unbelievable! At this point id rather tear it out and replace it with a white rodgers or any other reputable water heater. Never again Rheem!!

      Poor service & quality
      I've owned this water heater for just over two years. Like most others, it's fine at heating water. The issue is a sensor went out after ~2 years. The warranty line is worthless, with a 45+ minute wait time. It is not serviceable by standard plumbers because of proprietary parts to the Home Depot models. So, I ordered the part and paid for it myself with overnight shipment. It's scheduled to arrive three days later. I'm tempted to replace the whole unit over a $30 sensor.

        Disappointed with this brand
        I had a Rheem for less than two years and it leaked and the company replaced it. Then I got a new Rheem and that worked for three-weeks and had to replace parts. Very unhappy even though it was under warranty the company did nothing for all that time I was without hot water.

            Lasted 6 years
            Tank sprung a leak in the center pipe 3 times. Twice healed itself. Third time did not. Warranty process was straight forward. I just question the amount Home Depot refunded me to purchase another heater. It was $100 less than what someone quoted me over the phone. Obviously, I did not get their name and I had no time to argue. I did go through 1 Vapor sensor in the first year that got wet from the loose factory installed T&P valve. Otherwise no other physical or electronic issues with this 2016 unit itself besides the tank failure. Seems the newer models have all the 1 and 2 star mechanical and electronic issues. Skip the electronics and get the generic thermostat/controller.

                                The Water heater does not work
                                I bouth this water heater and installed it, it does not work, turns out to have a broken transformer, The customer service is really awful and slow, they did not call back to arrange for the replacement. It is more than a week that my house does not have hot water. Do not suggest this product since all pieces come from different countries and it is not American made and there is no quality control. The transformer is the most simple part and it shouldn't have any damages unless there is no quality control.

                                  Bad flue damper and poor service from Rheem
                                  Installed by Home Depot in March 2021 and after only a couple of months, the flue damper has stopped worked (the dreaded three flashes warning). It has taken forever to reach Rheem and once they are reached, they are extremely slow in sending someone to look at the water heater. I'm still waiting for someone to come out and actually fix the flue damper. In the meantime, cold showers are the norm.

                                    went out in less than 6 month
                                    I woke up this morning to a guest of mine telling me there was no hot water in the shower. This water heater is less than 6 months old and was purchased on January 9, 2021. Been trying to trouble shoot this I cant even reset the pilot light it just wont start at all and now currently sitting on hold with rheem tech support for 30 min. save yourself the hassle my last water heater lasted at least 8 years and I replaced it this. good luck

                                      ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE
                                      I have had this unit for just over a year and have had nothing but problems with it. First it was a burner issure with that went on/off and no certified service technician nearby. So after finding a tech willing to work on it he was able to clean up the burner and get it going again. Now the thing has a chamber ignition failure, from the stupid damper. No parts dealers anywhere, not even Home Depot. Can’t find the part, can’t find a dealer and still waitijng for my reimbursment from Rheem for the last warranty issue 5 months ago. DO NOT BUY, THIS IS A CRAPPY COMPANY AND EVEN WORSE PRODUCT.

                                        Rheem does not honor their warranty, do not buy
                                        Rheem does not honor their warranty. They do not care about their customers or the issues they encounter. If you buy a product from Rheem, assume that when it breaks you will be left in the cold, or in my case, with no hot water. Customer support does not care, they spent zero time troubleshooting, offered to send a part that would take over a week to arrive, and they do not have any service technicians in the DC area. How do you not have service techs in an area of 6+ million people? How does it take over a week to get a part? They offer to "cover" labor in the first year, they don't actually cover it, they just offer up to $200 in reimbursement, which, surprise surprise, no plumber works for that low of an amount. Rheem is a joke of a company and I will make it clear to anyone willing to listen that they should never purchase a product made by them. I will delete this review if Rheem has a new water heater installed today (5/17/2021)
