Bad screws
Its easy to install, you just have to find the stud in the ceiling or wall you are going to screw it to. The 3 stars are for the screws it comes with, the ones that hold the fixture you want to mount, they strip right away when you want to remove them. I had to remove them with locking plyes

Excellent product when you need it. This is a very sturdy, solid box that is great for installing during new construction or old (assuming you are next to a joist). I have most used them for old work installs when I can be near a joist in order to have that added support regardless of what kind of fixture will be mounted.

Absolutely awful
This is an atrocious attempt at creating a box suitable for old work. The screws have insufficient length to embed in the stud and are set to deep in the box so that the whole box tends to slide into the hole. The idea behind the box isn't bad, but the way it has been put into practice is idiotic.

      Easy to mount
Easy install to replace box when don’t have attic access. Hole for screw seems smaller than screw; loosen a bit by passing the screw in and out at least once before trying to mount. No issues having a 35 lb light.

Boxes mount well. I needed to notch the drywall below the truss so the guide ears caught the underside of the wood. The 2 mount screws work better when soaped- and you should drive the screws through the plastic mounting holes first to lessen drag, otherwise you can find yourself with a mount screw standing proud of the mount and jumping the Phillips driver because of the accrued drag. Multiple potential access reliefs around the box for Romex wire allows for box replacement without concerns for direction Romex is coming from in the attic. Well-made product.

Love this product. Would have given it an excellent rating if they used better screws. Could not use phillips head screws that came with product as the heads stripped. I luckily had square head wood screws that worked great! Easy installation with good screws!

Lifesaver! I needed a solution for an old work remodel installation and this worked perfectly. As one reviewer noted, old rafters can get quite hard so pre drilling is recommended.

I love this company. Their "old work" boxes are so simple, and solid, especially the ones for stud, and/or joist mounting. They come in various capacities depending on how crowded your job is. This was for a ceiling light fixture. It made the job super easy, once I cut the hole (actually, enlarged a previous hole). Pulled two cables, ran the two screws home. Took about 5 minutes. Likewise most Madison Electric products. I've used 1 and 2-gang "old work" switch boxes, with similar great results. Highly recommended.

Very sturdy and well made. I really like the mounting screws. I also like the 14 AWG and 12 AWG marked cable positions. The box is a bit expensive, it would be nice if these would come down in price.

These round wall boxes are great. They do NOT suck like every round wall box in my house. I had a contractor remove siding to stucco my house and when they did it, they pried off the old exterior light sconces rather than unscrewing them which ruined all the light boxes (it broke and stripped all the holes that the brackets to hang the lights go into). When the contractor rehung the lights, he used super long drywall screws to screw these really light wall fixtures into the back of the old light boxes. I now have heavy fixtures I want to put up so I have to change out the broken light boxes but the regular old-work boxes don’t have deep enough “ears” to accommodate the stucco. I bought these and they are perfect. I get to actually SCrEW them into a stud at the appropriate depth to accommodate the new heavy exterior wall sconces. Additionally, the holes that the brackets screw into are vertical (parallel with the stud) so They easily accommodate the horizontal dual screw wall mount lights that most light designers use for wall mounted lights these days. Every stinking wall box in my house uses horizontal holes for bracket mounting so these lights are always hard to mount because the holes they need on the bracket are already being used to screw the bracket to the darn light box. Not with these light boxes! Those bracket holes are ready and waiting because the mounting bracket that come with most lights mount to this wall boxes using different holes.

Upon replacing a bathroom electrical vanity light fixture, I discovered there was no electrical box, just anchors for the old light fixture which I had to remove. I had to cut a hole in the wallboard and made just enough space for the smart box to fill. It screwed in perfectly. Perfect solution without having to repair the wallboard that any other box would have required.
