I have this potting bench outside on my deck with one half protected by an overhang and the other half open to the elements. There is a huge difference in how the cedar looks 2 years later. The half exposed is turning gray while the half sheltered still looks as good as it did when I assembled it. I also have a cedar raised bed next to the bench which is also exposed but which I stained. It looks great with no visual graying from sunlight or rain. I would say if you're going to have this out in the open and still want it to retain its unweathered look then you will want to stain or paint it. I get that it's frowned upon to do this to cedar but it you don't its going to eventually turn old and gray.
I would recommend either staining or sealing the wood if you leave it outside unprotected. I have had mine outside for over a year now unsealed under a covered porch, and it still looks like new. I love my bench, so I know you'll really enjoy yours!
Yes, it is ceder. With mine, I also treated it with Varathane Spar Urethane for extra protection.
The potting bench is manufactured from Western Red Cedar which is an outdoor structure wood. Left without stained or sealed, Western Read Cedar naturally will turn a silvery grey. OLT recommends a coating to protect and prolong the life of the product.
Yes. I've had mine outside for 2 winters & there has been absolutely no damage from the weather.
From the ground to the top of that BOTTOM shelf is approximately 10-1/4 inches. I haven't checked the description as it's been several months since I ordered my potting bench. I also had a plastic pan left from my old potting bench that I put into the drawer on this potting bench to catch the rain and that works well. I didn't want to leave rain sitting in the wooden drawer on this new potting bench. Maybe you can find a dishpan to fit the drawer unless you have a roof over your potting bench to protect it from rain.
You could adjust it; however, it comes with pre-drilled holes for assembly at its current height..
No, the bottom shelf is at a fixed height.
All the parts are machined, and the screw holes are set for only 1 height. You could try to raise the shelf by screwing in the shelf brackets at a higher level, but I would not recommend it.
It’s predrilled but it can be higher with a drill. Warning though, the dirt pan has fallen out of mine.
The height from the floor to the table is 35 inches.
Bench is 35" high across front and the back is 52-3/4" high to the top of unit.
