What’s included in the garage door installation process?

After you've ordered your new garage door, a specialist will perform a site inspection to confirm your door size. We'll contact you to schedule the installation, and our professional installers do the rest. They'll deliver the new garage door to your home, within 30 miles of your local Home Depot. Your installer will remove the old door, install the new door, reconnect your opener, and seal the perimeter with new vinyl weather stripping. The service provider will also clean up the area and offer a final project walk-through before hauling away your old door. Additional fees for haul away may apply in some markets. Your garage door installation is covered by a 1-year labor warranty.

How much will my garage door and installation cost?

Because your garage door can be customized, pricing varies. Using our Clopay configurator, you’ll start with your door size and whether you need a single or double-width door. Next, you can choose from door collections, which gives you options of various materials and styles. Then, you’ll choose your construction, which allows you to decide what you need in terms of energy efficiency, durability and noise control. Add other options, such as windows, decorative hardware and insulation, and you will be able to visualize the design and see an end price. You can also select from standard garage doors that have not been customized so you can still know the product price early on in the process.

How do I measure my garage door?

Our professional garage door installers will take the measurements needed to properly size your new door. A total of six measurements are needed:

The rough opening of your space, which should be approximately the same size as the door.

The width, across the existing door or desired space
The height, vertically on the door or space

The sideroom, which is the space beside your door.
The width of the left side
The width of the right side

The space above and behind the door, which is called the headroom and backroom.
The height or distance between the top of the door opening and the ceiling
The distance along the ceiling from the garage door opening toward the back wall of the garage

Keep in mind that installing an automatic garage door opener might call for additional backroom or ceiling space.

What is R-value?

R-value describes the capacity of insulation. The higher the R-value, the better able the insulation is at maintaining temperature. Garage doors with a higher R-value will provide greater energy efficiency than doors with a low R-value. Basic doors have an R-value of 0.0 with no insulation. The first step up gives you 1-3/8” insulation with a 6.5 rating. Next, a 1-3/8” thickness with Intellicore insulation has a 12.9 R-value. The best option on the market is the 18.4 R-value, which comes from 2” Intellicore insulation.

When choosing a garage door opener, what power rating do I need?

Accepted Answer

Power rating should be based on the size and weight of your door.

If you have a standard-size, lightweight door, ¼ horsepower will meet your needs.
For most standard-size garage doors, ½ horsepower is recommended as the minimum power rating.
If your door is a larger size or is heavy (multiple layers of steel, natural wood with windows), ¾ horsepower is recommended.
