Wrapping My First Paint Project on a Small Space
Thinking of trying a paint DIY project can seem intimidating at first. At least those were my initial thoughts. But I am so thankful that with just a few items purchased from The Home Depot that all my DIY fears were alleviated. Follow along to see how I learned throughout the process and was able to completely flip my mom’s outdated wallpapered bedroom into a chic coastal granddaughter theme.
Your First Paint Project Does Not Have to Be Stressful
For this project I used Glidden Sky Diving paint color from PPG and BEHR DYNASTY™ Interior Paint in Dove. Before I started the project, I went to pick out the colors from The Home Depot store. It was easy to decide on a color a day later using the paint swatches. I ordered the paint online to pick up in the store. Quickly I learned my first lesson in this DIY renovation.
After going in the store and getting my colors picked out, I quickly saw how simple it was going to be to get this project done. A complete product list and two trips to the store got me everything I needed from start to finish. My first tip is do not make it complicated. Research the paint project you are completing, create your list and gather your supplies.
The Home Depot also offers a wonderful selection of How to Guides to help get project ideas and initial tips flowing!
After you get your supplies and prep your walls, you’re ready for the transformation to begin.
You Will Not Know Until You “DO”
For this project I thought that things would take at least two days, but the speed of this project quickly exceeded my expectations. The benefit of getting the brands of paint that I purchased from The Home Depot are that most of the first coat dries in about 30 minutes to an hour. These paints also only needed one coat to give a complete finished look!
I would recommend looking into paint that is one coat. Aside from cutting your project and painting time in half, you also don't have to worry about going back over the surfaces multiple times.
Wrapping My First Paint Project on a Small Space
My mom’s room was on the smaller side, and I was grateful that I did not start off doing a DIY paint project on a huge space; It likely would have overwhelmed me if I started on a large project as my first DIY attempt.
I’d recommend starting small to other first time paint DIY-ers as well. But now, since I have completed this project with the help of The Home Depot, I feel confident that I can take on any paint project, big or small!
