How much is mulch delivery at The Home Depot?
The Home Depot offers flexible mulch delivery options nationwide based on the size of your order. For small orders, we can deliver with a car for a $3 fee. As orders get bigger, we switch to a van for a $35 fee. For massive mulch projects, we have a fleet of box trucks and flatbeds ready to deliver to your job site for a $79 fee. Do you offer self-pickup for mulch orders?
Yes, if you prefer, you can pick up your mulch in your own vehicle. We're also happy to help if you need it. After you buy mulch in-store or online with store pickup, go to the drive-thru or mulch loading zone if your store has one. An associate will load a small or medium mulch order directly into your truck or SUV. For very large orders of bulk or bagged mulch, you'll likely want delivery.
Does my mulch get delivered in a car?
If you have a small bagged mulch order, you can get it delivered to your door via a store-fulfilled local delivery service that uses third-party drivers. Your mulch will arrive in a standard car or van for just a $3 delivery fee. Loose mulch orders, also called yard or bulk mulch, will come in a truck. If you order a specific number of bags, you may get free delivery. That threshold varies from store to store, but you'll be able to verify the cost at checkout.
How much mulch qualifies for flatbed or large truck delivery?
When you're ordering huge quantities of bulk mulch or pallets of bagged mulch, you'll qualify for box truck or flatbed delivery. Most of the time, these are landscapers, serious DIYers, or Pro customers undertaking a major landscaping project. There's usually a delivery fee and minimum pallet order. Orders that pass a threshold may qualify for free delivery.
What do I do about all these weeds?
Weeds are likely poking through in the garden beds, even if you put down a landscape fabric liner or mulch to keep them at bay. Be sure to get them before the weeds' flowers dry out and drop their seeds. Pull weeds from the root in vegetable gardens, and dig up the roots if the weed snaps off without them. If you choose to treat weeds with weed killer, find one that's safe for bees, other pollinators, and pets — and wear a respirator and heavy rubber gloves to ensure that it doesn't get in your lungs or touch your skin.
Can I fix burned grass?
The solution for how to get burnt grass green again is easy: Fix the scorched spot with a lengthy drink. You'll need to rehydrate those roots. It should perk up by the following week. The method for treating grass damaged by dog urine isn't as simple. Grass damaged by pets must be removed, neutralized, and replaced in fresh soil with new grass seed, sod, or patch and repair grass seed.
Is there an ideal time to water my garden?
If you can water at least once a day, during the early morning or in the evening, that's ideal. When it's extremely hot out, twice is better. Watering during the heat of the day means a lot of the moisture will evaporate. This applies to whatever you've got growing: lawns, trees, and gardens. Whenever you water, give all the plants a thorough drink, and don't skip it just because it's not the perfect time. The plants still need water to live, regardless of the time on the clock. Depending on your lawn health, grass type, and climate, you may also want to add a lawn fertilizer.
Should I fertilize a fruit tree?
Once you've got your plants in the ground, make sure they stay hydrated and well-fed. Choose an organic or synthetic fertilizer and give your garden a boost. You can even find one specially formulated for your plants, whether you need a vegetable fertilizer, fruit tree fertilizer, succulent plant food, or a general garden fertilizer. Only apply as often as recommended on the packaging. Remember to always water immediately after, as directed. That way, the plants won't be burned by the fertilizer.
How can I keep cool this summer?
When you need a break from relentless summer heat, shelter beneath a patio umbrella or a covered gazebo. If you have sturdy structures like a shed or house, make your own shade by attaching awnings and shade sails. But sometimes shade isn't enough because it's just too humid out. That's when a patio mister or misting fan can help cool the air and turn an uncomfortable afternoon into a refreshingly relaxing day. Return to lounging in the sun when that chilled air is ready.

Set Up For Summertime

That means you'll need to consider how to keep things cool with proper tending, shade, and irrigation. Keep Your Lawn Tidy
As the weeks tick by, the grass seed or sod you planted will grow taller than what's ideal. Eventually, it'll need some maintenance to look manicured and fresh. Keep the lawn in check with a self-propelled lawn mower and a string trimmer to knock down any tall grass around fences, buildings, or sidewalks.
Trees, shrubs, and bushes climb toward the sun and lose their shape over time. They'll be growing fast, filled with buds and blooms before you know it. Trim wild branches to the shape you want with garden shears and hedge trimmers. It's best to leave major tree maintenance and tree topping to the pros, but you may want to use a pole saw for minor trims and a chainsaw for small bushes and trees.
Care for Your Trees and Shrubs
When you're making sure your garden is watered, don't forget about the shrubs and trees. They may need less watering than delicate flowers or vegetable plants, but they can still get parched and dry in the summer heat. It's not hard to learn how to water trees and bushes — just be sure to aim the water at the roots. It'll help prolong the greenery and keep it from turning brown or yellow. Also, check for damaged areas on the trees and shrubs. Pests can destroy your greenery if you don't catch them in time.
Look for leaves full of holes, spots on bark or leaves, or strange raised scars on the bark that look like artistic decoration. When your leaves look like lace, something is eating them. Spots may indicate a number of issues ranging from fungus to bugs. Those scar-like lines on tree bark could mean your tree is infected with borers, which are insects that lay eggs inside the bark and then burrow out after they hatch. Research and care for any of these issues as soon as possible, as they may ultimately end the life of your tree.
Vertical Edible Gardening
Grow produce vertically for a smart use of space. Many vegetable plants are vines and well-suited to climb a fence or trellis, so plant them next to one. The key to success is supporting the stem, fruit, and branches. This is so the weight of the plant doesn't snap the stem or branches. Fasten the plant to a fence, trellis, or pole with plant ties and wires, string, garden wire, or fabric strips. Be sure to attach each plant loosely. Then, the stem has room to grow wider, and the leaves and branches can sway in the breeze.
Strawberries, watermelon, squash, cucumbers, and tomatoes need support as they bear fruit. Melons and squash require hammocks made of old nylons, string, a sling, or other stretchy fabric to support the weighty produce. All of these plants take up less space on the ground this way, which allows you to fit even more plants or have walking room in between.
Vines as Decorative Shade
Plant vines near a trellis or an arched arbor so they'll climb it and give you both shade and beauty. Go with vine plants that are native to your area. They're a good choice for success and attract pollinators. Jasmine, wisteria, and ivy are common options for creating a stunning archway. Remember to match your vine plants to how much sunlight you receive, as some like full sun and others don't.
