This Swing Pipe Assembly allows easy parallel connection of sprinkler heads to main underground irrigation pipes. Assembly consists of a 6 in. section of Swing Pipe connected on each end to one 1/2 in. male pipe threaded elbow. The Rain Bird Swing Pipe Assembly system makes it easy to position underground sprinkler heads around hardscape, terraces, plantings and uneven terrain. Can the end pieces be separated?I've been struggling trying to take the end apart?
The Swing Pipe Assembly is manufactured with a flexible swing pipe section connected to threaded elbows on each end. The elbows can be removed from the swing pipe if needed, but they are inserted with a very tight barb connection and may require significant force to separate. If you're trying to disassemble it, twisting the fitting while pulling can help. For many installations, however, the assembly is intended to be used as a complete unit and does not normally require disassembly.
Does the one end have a free spinning nut for tight area
the Rain Bird 6" x 1/2" x 1/2" Swing Pipe Assembly does not include a swivel or free-spinning nut. Both ends are male threaded connections designed to connect with compatible female fittings. The flexible swing pipe itself helps make installation easier in tight areas by allowing the sprinkler to be repositioned and aligned without rigid pipe connections.
Can these be cut sorter if desired?
The fittings are not designed to be removed from the tubing. So if you cut the tubing shorter you will need to purchase individual fittings to put in the end that you cut.
Yes it can be made shorter if needed. Also two foot lengths of the tubing, elbows and connectors are available to get a head in the right spot.
Should I be using pipe dope on these connections?
Not really a concern as you're watering your lawn. Even if it does leak a little there really isn't a problem because it's putting the water where you want it anyways.
Teflon thread tape is recommended for the best seal. Pipe dope may cause clogging in the spray or rotor/sprinkler.
Generally no. They are designed to seal without tape or sealant dope provided the threads are clean. They are plastic, not need for additional plastic tape
