Questions & Answers

What TYPE of Hardwood is the handle made out of? Hickory, Ash, Cheap Asian Wood?
ByOct 6, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

The STHT56145 identifies the handle only as an 11 in. hardwood/wood handle. It does not specify the wood species, so I can’t confirm whether it is hickory, ash, or another hardwood.

Both mallets are reliable tools offering a firm and comfortable grip. Both offering a bounce-resistant rubber head, but the color difference is mainly aesthetic.

The label is still on my mallet, but it doesn't say the makeup of it. I did some Googling and it appears that it is regular rubber. There can be soft and hard rubbers. As a student, you should contact Stanley Tools directly and they may provide the composition details for your project. Good luck!

Affordable and necessary for every homeowner.
Perfect weight, size, and with a WHITE head that doesn’t mar like the comparable black head. Rubber feels really solid. The handle is wood but dipped in the clear plasticy polyurethane every wooden tool is. The label is a pain to take off by the way, you’ll need to use a magic eraser/goo gone. Otherwise great tool!

It offers great value for the price
I got this Stanley 16 oz white rubber mallet, mostly because I had some new laminate flooring to put down and needed something that wouldn't mess up the planks, my overall impression is good and I'mhappy with it, it definitely met my expectations for the price! What I really liked was its non marring white rubber head, it’s true to its word and didn't leave a single scuff, which was a big win for me. The 16 oz head has a decent weight, not too heavy, and the 11 inch wooden handle feels pretty solid and comfortable, honestly it’s a great value for what you get, it feels well made, especially for tapping things into place during assembly or those lighter DIY jobs around the house. If I had to point out one tiny thing, is that for really heavy duty, constant use, the head might eventually loosen or show wear, but for typical homeowner projects like mine, it's been a champ.

This is a very large, high quality mallet. I purchased this to use to tap maple trees for sap in the spring. It's the middle of the winter right now so I can't try it out, but it's a rubber mallet. The rubber is extremely durable, and there's a good weight/heft to this product. I know it will work well for my intended purpose. I've tried using dollar store rubber mallets but they don't hold up well.

The mallet is great for putting paint can lids back on and knocking items into place without marring up the surface that you are making contact. The white rubber is solid enough to keep from bouncing the mallet back at your head when you strike your target. The only issue is the handle on the mallet is slightly crooked. When you hold the handle correctly the mallet head is just slightly twisted. It doesnt effect the way the mallet works or its effectness. It is just nitpicking on the quality of construction of the mallet. I would buy this mallet again.

This is exactly what I needed to do to put down a metal and I would recommend it highly can’t go wrong with Stanley good way good feel durable and it will come in handy for future products and I have a feeling that it will last as long as I needed to. I have a good feeling that it will come in handy when I finish this shelving project I have coming soon but I’m very satisfied with the product.
