Bye-Bye Copper
I've used these several times to as a DIYer. Clean your copper and the adapter, use ample flux and get the joint hotter than normal. Never had a failure.

Junk.... the sweat fittings Solder very poorly
Used 5 sweat fittings on a hydronic heating system. They were the only fittings that had to be replaced. Solder sticks very poorly and sometimes not at all. Junk

      No Good - Won't Solder
Similar to other reviewers here, I was unable to get solder to stick to these. Doesn't have anything to do with cleaning, prep, or materials (solder, flux, etc) as I used many other fittings in my system (with identical installation) and ONLY these gave me trouble. EVERYONE of these wouldn't work. Too bad. First Sharkbite product I've purchased which I'm not satisfied with. Interestingly enough, these have a larger ID than the other sweat fittings I purchased Most fittings have enough friction on the pipe to stay in place while you sweat them on. These things are just loose enough that they will slide off the pipe.

        They're Brass
This is complete garbage Anyone with a little experience with a propane torch can tell you, however, that soldering is never a one-size-fits-all operation, with different jobs requiring different techniques. In particular, soldering brass pipes can be more challenging than soldering copper. Read on to learn why and to learn some tips on how to successfully solder a brass fitting. Brass Fittings Require Higher Temperatures The basic process for joining brass or copper pipes is essentially the same: Clean the pipe ends that you intend to join until they are shiny and free from any burrs or debris. Next, brush on the plumbing flux and push the pipes together. Finally, heat up the fitting using a torch, while dripping liquid solder into the joint to create a secure and water-tight barrier. In 2011 they stopped producing MAPP and now they produce MAPP+ which is 400 degree cooler than MAPP Brass does not solder well, brass is cheaper than copper, right sharkbite manfacturer

Good morning, You are correct that our products are Brass. We manufacture and produce a lot of products using Brass (this include our Cash Acme valves and all our SharkBite fittings.). It would only make sense to continue to produce products with Brass since we already have the machines used for this milling. We are sorry to see you do not like using Brass as a soldering system. We've had a few engineers test these fittings internally and say the only issue they experienced was when they did not clean the fitting properly because oil residue from the milling was still present. If you clean the product properly before beginning your soldering, you shouldn't have any issues. If you do have issues, please feel free to contact us any time at 1-877-700-4242 between 8 am to 6 pm est Monday through Friday.
          Do not Buy
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been sweating and brazing pipe for over 20 years and have never seen anything like this. solder will not stick to these fittings. tried several different flux and solder brands, none worked. Will not buy these again. Sharkbite has a real problem here.

            Cannot get solder to stick
I have had the same issue as many folks here. I had an issue with four of these where the solder would not stick. I am a homeowner but have done thousands of sweating copper pipes and never had an issue like this. The initial three I replaced with other ones and was able to complete. Last one just did yesterday wasting over two hours and a visit to HD was completed only by switching to the threaded SharkBite fitting to a copper threaded fitting that I was able to sweat in less than a minute. I am a bit concerned about the SharkBite fittings left that were soldered that they may start leaking one day, so will need to keep an eye or totally remove all of them.

Good morning, We apologize for the difficulty you experienced with the Sweat Adapters. We've tested these fittings and if the pipe and fitting are properly cleaned there should be no issue soldering. If you would like to send the product back to us for testing we would be happy to replace, also if you could share some more details with on us it would be helpful in identifying possible solutions to your issue. Our customer service number is 1-877-700-4242 open M-F 8am to 6pm, please give us a call and we'd be happy to assist!
              Impossible to sweat
I went through 6 fittings to finally get one to hold. Tried high heat, low heat and everything else we could think of Have been sweating pipe for years and never ran into a problem like this. That's $35 sitting in the scrap bin that I could have used on something else.

Good afternoon, We are sorry to hear about the difficulties you are experiencing with our Sweat Adapters. We have reached out to our engineers and they suggested to use an acid to clean off any machining oils leftover from manufacturers. They would recommend cleaning off the pipe as well. If you attempt these steps and are still experiencing issues, please feel free to reach out to our customer support team at 1-877-700-4242 between 8 am - 6 pm est Monday through Friday.
