            Hey, it is a tailpipe.
I needed to replace the kitchen sink strainer and tailpipe. This one worked fine. After measuring, I cut it to the desired length with a hack saw - about 8" - and removed the burrs. The gasket and nut that came with the strainer fit perfectly. I reused the old gasket and nut for the other end.

As seen in the photo it is connecting my garbage disposal to the drain of my double basin sink. Most garbage disposals have a flanged connecting that interface with this nicely. I used this to replace a similar item that my home's previous owner had cut too short, a leak that I surmise was avoided by some combination of prayer and dumb luck.

Great for my application under our rental's sink. I used a hacksaw to cut off 2 inches. Once you cut it, sand the ends of it, inside and out. This went straight down into a p-trap, which drains to the wall. This is the piece that connects to the bottom of your drain(non garbage disposal side, usually)
