Questions & Answers

Is there a way to use this tool to crimp 1/8 inch stainless steel wire crimps? Different jaws or ...

Asked by RIP February 13, 2021

No! the crimper has to jaws for 1/2" and for 3/4" inside diameter tubing (ID), which makes the smallest outside diameter (OD) 7/8" and 1" an 1/8" ID tubing has a 1/4" OD the jaws will not be able to get close enough to the fitting to crimp it. what you need and don't have to buy any specialty tool is either a compression connector (best for high pressure) which you will only need is 2 wrenches or, a push-in quick connect no tools required both can be purchased at the Home Depot plumbing section

can i use litorange lead free copper&black clamps

Asked by fredro5 November 28, 2019

You need to be more specific, what are you using the clamps on and the situation, litorange clamps are used as battery connectors and other DC voltage connections, if that is your intent then No! this crimper is made specifically for PEX crimp rings there is no adjustment on them, it crimps the PEX to a predetermined size as not to crush the pipe or fitting and have proper fluid flow

Will this work with Viega style crimp rings?

Asked by Jason November 17, 2019

No! the Viega has a bead with a rubber O-ring inside you need the appropriate tool to fit over the bead to get the fitting to properly crimp and seal the joint

For 1/2 pex ring, do you need to adjust the force setting or just leave it on "0"?

Asked by Daniel August 12, 2018

Leave it

Do not buy- cheap metal
the metal is too soft and warps around the calibration/adjustment screw so does not tighten the ring adequately. very disappointed and frustrated- looks like we will be replumbing. Again. We live ~50 miles from a Home Depot so living without water until we can get back to return and find a new tool.

Crimp Tool Fail
The calibration setting kept stripping and miving back to zero and the go no go tool would mot fit on any of the crimp rings. Cheap tool. Dont waste your money.

This tool crimped too tightly at the lowest setting. At a certain angle the go-no-go gauge flagged it as too tight. Didn't realize it until my 6th crimp or so. Can't wait to return this tool and redo all that work. Will not be buying any more Apollo tools.

Tool made very cheap
Crimp adjustment setting slips back to 0 and doesn’t crimp fittings all the way. Poor product! Waste of money and time!

Don't waste your time or money
I went through two of these, the first set would not crimp evenly around the rings the second pair just fell apart (after about 30 crimps), these cheap and tiny little lock washers just fell off forcing a bolt to come out as well as a bearing that the pliers pivot on. Thankfully I was able to find the lock washer that flung off and spent an hour putting it back together.

Every time I use this, there is a leak!!! Is there a way to tighten the crimps?
by JimC
Garbage, Garbage, Garbage
Do not buy. The tool is constructed with a tension adjustment system that employs inadequate steel. Put simply, the steel is soft, as a consequence, the steel becomes misshaped and then the tool will not maintain adequate tightness for the crimps because the 'locking' mechanism on the tension screw is not strong enough to stay locked. It will pull to the weaker position. Then you are SOL after you add some water pressure to the line.

Uneven crimp
Tested the crimp on 3/4" and 1/2" pex with copper rings. The 1/2" was fine, but the 3/4" was uneven. The gauge showed over-crimped on one part of the ring and under-crimped when I rotated the ring 90 deg. Wasted four crimp rings with this bad tool.
