Questions & Answers

Hi. Would this be ok to use outside to cover the ac unit in winter?

Asked by: BetsyH
I would use exterior grade pressure treated plywood instead.

In the description it says actual thickness is 0.476 in. but in the dimensions section is says actual product thickness: 0.21 in.. This seems like an error. Which is correct?
Asked by: Phil
The thickness dimension is .476". The .21 is probably the thickness of the plies.

I am building a skateboard ramp and need plywood that is both smooth and flexible. How bendable is birch compared to plywood such as pine, and how smooth does it tend to be compared to typical pine plywood?
Asked by: Hall
birch is a softer wood then the pine.

Is this treated?

I am looking to use this as a cutting board and do not want wood with chemicals in it
Asked by: Alexander
Cutting boards should always be made using food grade adhesives to hold different pieces of wood together. I would not use this material to make cutting boards but there are plenty of other uses for it and it performs quite well.

1/2 in. x 24 in. x 48 in. Birch Plywood (Actual: 0.476 in. x 23.75 in. x 47.75 in.) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 153.

Sold as Birch plywood, not 0.4 mm birch veneer pine plywood. Outer veneer is 0.4 mm thick and chips off when making finger joints. Tried taping with only marginal success. However, the Inner 3 plies are apparently not birch but some kind of softwood which has nowhere near the hardness or strength of birch, which are crucial mechanical properties for finger joints. I didn't find this out until after I cut two sheets of this stuff all up and started making finger joints, wasting about four hours of time, and $45.00 in purchase price.

There are voids in some of the layers of wood but the product worked well for my project. I used this plywood to make a table saw sled and a couple other jigs for the saw. Using the plywood for this project the voids really did not effect the outcome.
