by|Mar 20, 2024

A:  Concerned, we do not have an estimated time for the smell to dissipate. However, in a well-ventilated space, the drying process can be expedited, potentially eliminating the smell sooner.

Q:We bought 4 sheets of this plywood. It LITERALLY STINKS!! One associate mentioned that it is still wet. How can we dry this? Should it be coated/painted before application? With what specific product? Is this safe to use in a bathroom application?
    by|Mar 20, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Concerned, unfortunately, we do not have specific recommendations for drying practices for this plywood. Once dry, it can be sealed or painted using a water-based product. With proper support, this plywood can be used in various bathroom applications. However, we recommend consulting your local building code or code compliance officer to confirm if this plywood meets the requirements for this project in your area.

          Coming Apart
This one sheet is de-laminating badly. It looks like they didn't put glue between one of the layers.

The piece of this product is already beginning to buckle in the floor of my shed, but in all fairness it may be because most standard floor plywood is 3/4 in. thick. The previous owners who built the shed used 1/2 in. cheating on all as they did most everything else. I also had to have a smaller piece of 24" by 16" cut to patch a small section that had been damaged. Even though the repairman used 3" screws to hold it down I was surprised when it started curving so soon within a week. I'm not a builder or carpenter, so it may be another reason. I hired someone to do the job and he assured me he knew how. Well, you know how that goes. He used 3" screws, but the only place was around the shed, I thought maybe if a put a few more in? The 4' by 8' cost $25 so I didn't expect it to buckle. I thought that was a bit high, but what do I know. It is in a section of the shed that is inside, of course. I don't think the workmanship was the best but I wasn't able to shop around, you know? I say if you can go thicker do so and if you can find better, do that too. I paid top dollar, so I can't account for my judgment there.

This was used for the bottom of a raised bed. It is very wet when purchased but dries fairly quickly. We had left the plywood lying in the sun and the top sheet had dried and warped. it was then leanedt against a wall for a day and it straightened itself. I cut the sheets to size and allowed them to dry before assembly. THEY WILL SHRINK!

Not sure how to comment on plywood? This purchase was used for my new house. The house was built with 1/2 used on the floor. I would have preferred 3/4 for a more solid feel, but I wanted to keep it the same as the old. Happy I did since the 1/2 was still not that easy to move around in a small room by myself. Over all very pleased.

Unlike others buyers I didnt have a problem finding a decent sheet of this material at the store. I do agree that the plywood is wet when you purchase. If you allow it do dry out it will warp like crazy, to the point it is not really useable. So if you purchase this plywood be sure to stack it flat with some heavy weight on top to keep it from warping or install it right away and use sufficient framing to keep your project from warping.
