Q:Can this be used for deck balusters?
by|Oct 15, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  No. This is not sufficient for a baluster. Ideally, you would use 2x2 for balusters or something even larger.

Q:I want to use this for end caps to hide the scalloped ends of composite decking (which is 15/16" thick). What is the best way to rip the lath to 1" wide? I was thinking clamps, a straight edge, and a utility knife. Any other ideas?

          1 Answer
          Answer This Question

A:  This is likely too thin for that use. Ripping these small pieces likely won't result in a product you will be happy to use.

I had to pick through a lot to find ones that were relatively straight without a lot of knots. These things looked more like sawmill railings.

Wood sticks were no marked and I told them the price so they could look it up. They made me wait 15 minutes with customers stacking up. I finally walked to the back with another Home Depot so he could find the sticks. All this for $1.37 each- she would not believe me.

Not very durable. A lot of knots and that's where it would break.

I needed spacers to level my window boxes. The lath worked perfectly
