Questions & Answers

how do i get the snake to unwind from the spool so I can use it?

Asked by: Judi
Great question, had the same challenge! After removing all of the product sticker(s), I had to attach the end to an anchor (in this case a hook in my garage wall), and then pull. I left it anchored and pulled out the full 20'. Then i coated the tape with a lubricant and wound it up using the handle as close to the center as possible. Am hoping the lubricant will coat the insides to make the pull much easier in the future.

HOW TO USE A BRASS CRAFT FLAT TAPE SINK CLEANER

TELL ME STEP BY STEP ON HOW TO USE THE FLAT TAPE SINK CLEANER
Asked by: KOOKY
Unwind and push through to the clog turning the whole thing in you hands to spin the auger. Though you will likely have to disassmble you drain and it could not get through our sinks s tube to get to the clog.

This auger gets caught on the plumbing fixtures!

Hi there--I have a kitchen drain that is weirdly plumbed and sometimes gets clogged, even though I'm careful to use a trap for food debris; The U-trap is about 4 ft from the drain itself, with a long stretch of pipe leading to it. I've used this tool twice, trying to avoid calling my Super, and it gets stuck on something in there--this last time a plumber had to remove it for me, so I'm obviously not going to stick I in there again.. :( Is there something I could do to the augur on the end to make it smooth? Cover it with epoxy or something? It's getting hooked on the rivet which holds the screw on, I think. Ever heard of this problem? Any suggestions? The first time, I got it out by pouring a bunch of vegetable oil down the drain...!
Asked by: DrB
Dear DrB – thank you for your question. We do not recommend modifying the sink cleaner for your application. A drain cleaner with a round wire such as the BC91015 (Store SKU # 167436) or the BC84150 (Store SKU # 157345) with 1/4 in. diameter and 15 ft. length may be more suitable for your requirements. Please remove your sink p-trap prior to using either suggested drain cleaning tool. If you have additional questions on product selection or use, please feel free to contact one of our product experts toll-free at 800-835-2200.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Piece of Junk I bought this product hoping to unclog my drain. Not even 2 mintues of trying to use it the plastic handle broke off. THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK. DO NOT waste your time with IT DOES NOT WORK! The handle should be metal and not plastic. But what do expect for $7!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY I bought one a long time ago and I used it to clean gutter downspout. It worked great. I tried to use it to clean out drain and I busted the plastic handle. So, I went out to buy a new one and went to clean the same drain and the whole case is built in plastic and it split wide open and the whole snake came out and it is now ruined. I will not buy this EVER again!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from the handle broke off the plastic handle broke off as i tried to uncoil the snake so i had to take the casing apart. i do not recommend doing so because 20 feet of oily metal pops out. you're better off spending a bit more for a product that does not need to be improvised with.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from only good for straight pipes It's a little too stiff and can't go through bends. Maybe it's ok for large diameter plumbing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your time I originally bought this for an all purpose for my tub and general drain cleaner, I've even tried to use it with my toilet. Doesn't matter what you use it for, it doesn't work for anything. For my toilet however, even with larger diameter piping, still wouldn't bend around the corners/turns, just left me with marks at the bottom of my toilet bowl.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good Idea - poor execution I have a problematic bathroom sink that needs to be cleaned out every couple of years, thought this would let me do that without taking it apart. No such luck, would not go around the bends very well and didn't grab any of the clog. So end up taking the trap apart and cleaning it out with a closet snake.
