Does this board come in a size wider than 12 in. I need a board up to 18 in wide. 18 in x 60 in would be ideal. Any board or laminate shelving in this width would be suitable.
Asked by: Jean
I have not seen 1x's in > 12". You can join it with a 1x6 to make an 18". Or if you're using it for shelving, look for shelving boards. These are actually composites, but they come in 16", and maybe 18". They are actually a little cheaper, but they are also heavier, so make sure you use good support.

This usually comes from a Ponderosa pine tree. It is very soft, so when you are working with it, any small bump with a hard tool (or edge/corner of another board, etc...) will put a dent/scratch in the surface. Sanding is necessary as there are stamped barcodes, wording, or colors put on the boards for identification either at the mill, shipping, or for when they are delivered. It's a pain to have to sand all of these markings off the boards when they are usually fairly ready to be used otherwise. I definitely recommend these boards for building shelving or similar projects, but because it's so soft, furniture to hold adults is probably not the safest idea. And also because of the softness, a finish of some kind like polyurethane is highly recommended! I have made several bookshelves with this wood as well as used them unfinished on my basement ceiling, and look amazing!

The board was a good shape, but one end had a split about 6" long in the grain direction. This is a common problem with these boards. I had to reject two others which were split. It had few knots which is the other problem. Several in the stack had broken corners, which is a problem when you want to join them together. I was making a shelf unit and it did the job for me.

Associate picked a very warped replacement after incorrectly cutting the board I picked. Project completrd, bit the warped board was hard to work with. Despite his poor board choice, the associate was extremely patient with my cut list and accurate.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from There is not whole lot of premium going on here.... There is not whole lot of premium going on here. This product is hard to use lots of cupping and that makes it hard to make a bookshelf with the boards cupped. Also lots of knots and voids had to use epoxy to fill some because of how big they were. It is pine and you get what you pay for.

Product itself was good but an unsatisfactory substitute for what I needed which was 5/4 yellow pine stair tread that you did not carry. Ended up going to a real lumberyard to purchase the SYP treads.
