Q:In which universe is 11.25" rounded up to 12"?? This is absurd. Homedepot should call it what it is , nominal 11". I have a feeling entire wood industry has failed basic math class. This only happens in USA.

          Answer This Question

A:  Um, this has to do with the lumber milling process, and has nothing to do with the retail aspect. And this is a national standard.

A:  This the difference between nominal and actual lumber sizes. These standards are determined by the national lumber grading agencies and have been in effect for over 100 years.

A:  Per Wikipedia: Lumber's nominal dimensions are larger than the actual standard dimensions of finished lumber. Historically, the nominal dimensions were the size of the green (not dried), rough (unfinished) boards that eventually became smaller finished lumber through drying and planing (to smooth the wood).

                Not 12 inches wide
Builder beware: these boards claim to be 12 inches wide but are almost an inch short.

Hi Rick, we apologise for the confusion, in the lumber industry the nominal sizes are advertised but the actual sizes are slightly smaller, this is shown on the website but not in the store. JDIRVINGHAPPYBROOK

                  11.25 not 12
Brought a board home and it wasn’t 12in but 11.25in. What a pain to take all the way back for someone’s silly error. Make sure to measure before buying.

                    Warped beyond repair
Upon arrival today to pick up my "Kiln dried" premium pine!? I noticed the warp all the way from my truck to the door the gentleman was coming out of. Even if I cut it in half, rejoin it and plane it, I would never get more than a 1/2" thickness from this product. I ran inside to see if there was anything better. Unfortunately, I got the last 3 pieces, despite their inventory system saying they had 15. I have had decent luck in the past, only when there is an excessive amount to sort through. So, why buy my wood from HD? Because I really needed this project done and I don't have the money for a quality lumber store product. Very dissapointed that I still decided to buy it and fix the warp myself. The time spent does not justify the money I hoped to have saved. Now, I will have to go to another lumbar yard and spend twice as much on top of the kindling I bought at HD. Don't believe for a second that this product will be squared off in any way and be prepared to do a lot of trimming of ends and possibly clamping for days to work out the buckling.

The eastern white pine boards were used to build a 16" shelving system to connect the top of three vintage bookshelves we re-purposed. This way we had one continuous top shelf all the way around the closet. We ripped a couple of the whitewood boards in half and combined a full board and a half board with the Kreg pocket jig. The boards required minimal sanding as they were planed smoothly. The boards stained evenly with a rich cherry Minwax stain. We used GRK cabinet screws from Home Depot in various lengths to screw shelf supports we made from the white pine boards to the wall and vintage bookshelves. We're exceptionally pleased with the results. We'll be purchasing the metal adjustable closet rods from Home Depot to complete the job.

Many of the boards were not straight at all. I had to search and dig through a pile to find decent enough ones that were straight with no damaged areas or chunks missing. I'm rating a three because of how easily these boards can warp, but i still recommend for certain projects because the wood is easy to work with and looks great as a finished project.

                        easy to work with
Wanted to build a bug cage for the kiddos when we are playing in the yard and find some. With that said it worked great easy to sand all the corners I did it by hand to round them out. I’ve built other things with this wood before so I knew it would work great for this little project. I wouldn’t build anything that will need to hold a lot of weight
