Q:I'm looking to paint these for a craft. Are they sanded/smooth? Or do I need to sand them first?

Answer This Question

A:  Picked some up today. They are "finished" as in not rough cut, think 2x4 lumber finish. For craft work you probably will want to sand them to get a nice smooth surface for good painting results. I just spray painted mine as property marker finders and you can clearly see the surface fibers in the paint.

A:  No, you would need to sand them and expect significant splinter shards, as these are not refined at all, but made to mark boundaries and such.

    A:  Yes it is

A:  Don't know. Didn't look at the package that closely. But the stakes didn't split while being driven into the ground.

            A:  there are different lengths ( 2 ft, 3ft, 4ft) but the stock is 1' by 2'.

            by|Jul 9, 2019

A:  They have reduced the size this year! Actual size is .675" x 1.25", about one half of the listed/stated 1" x 2"! They are useless for "GRADE STAKES" as they splinter when you try to hammer them into the ground!

Bought these stakes to put around our trees. Put 4 around the small tree and then wrapped twine around the stakes to make a type of fencing barrier to stop male dogs from peeing on our trees. The stakes were basically working good. Easy to hammer into the ground. What I didn't like is that we had to be careful on what packages we bought. Many of the packages had stakes with knots on the them that would weaken the strength of the stake. Because we couldn't check the inside stakes, we did get a couple that had bad knots on them and they broke when we started hammering on them. In the picture I posted, you can see one stake with a notch in it. The other smaller stake is the one that had the knot and it broke. Other than that, these worked great for what we needed them for. If by chance the twine idea doesn't keep dogs out, we can easily staple fencing to the stakes to make the areas more secure.

I bought 2 bundles. Out of 24 stakes 14 were usable. The rest were knotted and broke either in the package or after 1 hit with a hammer.

The stakes hold up to hammering well so far and they were straight.

Horrible quality. half the stakes had knots and broke as soon i tried to drive them into soft ground. Don't bother with these, a waste of money.

These stakes have so much defect in wood that they break in half while putting in ground. Won't buy again
