          Answer This Question

A:  It would require supports under it, and very close to each other. I would personally recommend a harder, better quality wood.

A:  I used this to make a really nice patio table. I think as long as you finish it correctly it would do just fine on a park bench, but that of course depends on the design we are talking about.

A:  We would recommend a 1x6x8 cedar boad ripped to 1x3 for any exterior project.

A:  Because the grain is so straight, and if you properly seal it on all sides, it can be used for a decorative bench.

A:  Yes, I bought this wood for the same purpose. Both myself and my husband are able to sit on the bench after restoration with this wood. It worked perfectly.

Q:Can this be used as door casings? If not, what options are there for 1x3 square edge door casings?

                  Answer This Question

A:  I used for door casing. On the hinge side because I needed a narrower piece.

                  by|May 5, 2023

A:  Sure, why not. It's more expensive than standard casing found in the mouldings area, but it is stainable, which may be the look you are going for.

                    by|Dec 31, 2019

A:  They're actually .75 x 2.5. I used a different Home Depot product that is 3.25 with rounded edges, but if you have a decent table saw, you could trim it to 3" and make it square. Unfortunately, I don't remember what it was and it's installed already so I can't see the label.

                    by|Mar 31, 2021

A:  Yes, you can use this for door casings. Many homes have square edge casings.. I'm planning on using it for a window casing and building an indoor shutter to go with the window. It will also match the cabinets I built..

A:  Brian it can, however the product IRVING supplies HD is Eastern White Pine and has red knots that if not sealed several times over with a shellac based knot sealer, will bleed through white paint eventually. That being said I suspect HD have various options of actual 3 inch casings in the moulding aisle to choose from. Good Luck with your project. BRANDERS

A:  No. You would have to buy 2 1x4s and glue and plane and cut them to get that size.

Wood is alright for these days, all wood is nothing like years ago. Expensive well that’s the way our world is now a days. Just wish they didn’t have so many warped boards.

Cut and drilled this to make pilasters so I could install adjustable height soft-close drawers in kitchen cabinets.

                                Not True Size
the sticker on the boards clearly say .75 x 2.5 x 8 I asked an associate where the 1x3 boards Actually were. He said "They don't have a TRUE 1x3, all 1x3 boards are actually .75 x 2.5 . That is insane, the manufacture is labeling the product correctly so why is it in HD inventory incorrectly?. At the register this .75×2.5 board indeed rigs up as 1x3. Seen same trend on other boards not clearly labeled. imagine the frustration of buys several boards for a project only to realize they are too small. I guess I'm bringing my Tape Meassure from now on to avoid this ridiculous situation.

I use these for cabinet faces and doors. They work great for that. I always check them for straightness, though - a lot of times they are warped in the store. Buy straight ones and they rock. Would get five stars if I didn't have to check for straightness before I bought them.

                                  “Pandemic purchase pangs”
On the whole the quality was good, but if I was choosing the wood myself in the store, I would have rejected 2 lengths for small knots and warpage. But knowing I would be cutting those pieces into shorter lengths I could work around the flaws. All employees were doing their best during “Curb side only pick up” to please customers.

                                  Very nice boards
I have had great success using these 1×3s for various projects. I often use them as legs and top surface edging for my diy furniture projects including a storage bench, coffee table and chairs. I use 3 grits of sandpaper only and am really pleased with the results.

I spent about 15 minutes going through every board in the stack today. The boards don't have a smooth finish (they used to). All of them were very textured and grainy. Many were knotted and bent and essentially only good for firewood. At $9.48 per board, I expect a lot better quality but was in a pinch and had to buy
