A: These slats have a nominal width of 4" but actual product width is 3.5".
A: I cannot answer that question with absolute certainty, as we no longer have those slats, but from memory I’d say they were 2.5-3” wide. I hope this helps.

A: That's what I did. Just make sure that it is a snug fit so that the boards stay in place.
