Q:does this wood contain tannins?
by|Jul 31, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  all plants and trees contains tannins. this wood is made with kiln dried Eastern White pine, which means its moisture content is in the 10 - 12% range . Tannins require moisture and water to propagate. Since these boards are kiln dried , you can say that there is virtually no significant tannins left inside.

Q:Can you use these for outdoor privacy screens?
    by|May 3, 2021

    Answer This Question

A:  Whitewood is a very soft wood compared to other species of trees such as oak, maple, or ash. Whitewood would not withstand exterior conditions in a cold climate for more than a couple of years, if that. Since you want privacy screens that will last more than a short time, use pressure treated lumber. Many popular dimensions of lumber are available at HD which are pressure treated, meaning that the pressure treatment process for the wood protects the wood from ground rot, and many insects.

A:  These are mostly PINE lumber, which will not last long outdoors. I would build a small section with just a few boards, PAINT IT OR STAIN IT WELL with proper exterior compounds, and see how it holds up. If you have success, then go for the larger project

    by|May 4, 2021

A:  Absolutely! They are lighter than the 3/4 boards, I had to exchange them out for the heavier/ thicker ones on my gate because the other ones were too heavy. They worked great !!

    by|May 4, 2021

A:  Sure but you need to stain or paint for outside use.

    by|May 4, 2021

A:  You most certainly can use anything wood outside. I would not recommend this as it will rot rather quickly.

    by|May 4, 2021

A:  Yes, it just needs to be painted or sealed, if the wood gets wet, it will warp and or rot

      by|May 4, 2021

A:  I would say yes as long as you paint or stain before installation.

Q:can I use it on the outdoor fence?
      by|Sep 27, 2020
      5 Answers
      Answer This Question

A:  You can but this wood is not treated so it would be susceptible damage by the outdoor elements. You can protect it with a sealant but it would be preferable to use treated wood for outdoor use.

      by|Sep 27, 2020

A:  Pine boards like this do not last very long outdoors. Try redwood or cedar, and PAINT or STAIN your project to protect it from weather.

      by|May 4, 2021

A:  Yes but they must be painted or stained/sealed

      by|May 4, 2021

A:  Whitewood should not be used for fencing. It is too soft and rots easily.

      by|May 4, 2021

A:  Yes, we just did that replacing the heavier ones (3/4") on our gate- they are lighter and worked great !

Q:Do you still offer to cut the boards down?

      Answer This Question

A:  Yes, but it depends on what you mean by "cut the boards down" which determines how much they will do it for. Home Depot has the equipment to cut just about any "board" any way you like. Great service!

A:  The store I shop will cut boards.

      by|Dec 6, 2022

A:  I believe you will need to contact your local Home Depot with the current state of the world, Home Depot along with other essential stores are limiting contact with many and asking for people to be very careful and limited to necessary items.

      by|Apr 4, 2020

A:  Yes, just yesterday I had a sheet of plywood cut in four 4x2 pieces

      by|Apr 4, 2020

A:  Yes most of not all stores will cut these boards for you

Nice cuts of pine. Very little knots. Between 1/4" -1/2" longer than 6' so I had to cut them down to make the 6'. I sand and stain them twice with Minwax English Chestnut stain to make very nice shelving.

The wood was used to construct a frame for a Halloween prop. The wood remained fairly straight and did not cup or otherwise warp when cut and assembled. No significant problems were noticed with the quality of the pine wood used for this project.

I purchased 3 of the 1" x 8" x 6' boards. My project required that I rip two of the boards to obtain the shape pieces I needed for my project. In the process of ripping the boards they split do to internal stresses around knots. Fortunately I didn't have to waste much of the lumber but I did have to return to purchase Two 1x3 boards to finish my project,
