I would like to use this on a ceiling. How much does this product weigh?

Asked by wyoreno September 25, 2019

Answer

These boards are approximately 9.5 pounds each.

Does the board actually measure 8” or narrower?

Asked by Homeowner March 16, 2019

Answers

Narrower than 8" - read the specs where it advises you the real dimensions of the board and the "face" dimension - the "face" is the actual coverage height assuming zero gap. I used a controlled gap of approximately 1/8" and the resulting installed height of the board (the coverage height) wound up at approximately 6.87" (6 and 7/8").

What grade is the premium s1s in the grade rankings of pine wood

s1s means one side (the face) is finished smooth - one side is ruff finished and the edges are rough but you don't see them when it is installed - you can hang them ruff side out for texture or smooth side out for a cleaner look. These planks do have some knots in them (like knotty pine, but not a ton of knots)

Can I paint these boards before we hang them?

I used an exterior opaque stain (like for a deck or a fence) and stained before I hung them - it worked fine - you could do the same with paint - you will need to touch up the cut ends as the butted joint between adjacent boards will not always be perfectly "flush"

I would not recommend doing this - they need to be nailed into the studs of the wall - while theoretically you can determine where the studs are behind your wall with magnets and such, I believe you will regret trying to hang this over painted drywall - you are going to miss studs, you could hit a water pipe or an electrical wire - risk of a disaster is too high in my opinion - of course there are probably professionals who could do it. I would not attempt it.

How many boxes will I need to cover 235 sq feet?

Asked by JJohnson June 19, 2018
1
Answer

Each box of 3 will cover roughly 14 sq ft. You also need to calculate roughly 10-15% for a waste factor. So you will need 18-19 boxes to cover 235 sq ft.

How many boxes would I need to cover 1100 sq.ft. ,walls and ceiling?

Asked by Stoney May 5, 2018
1
Answer

Each box contains about 13.5 Sq. Ft. You will need about 82 boxes to cover 1100 sq ft (with little left over...so you might need a little more!)

Would you consider this a rustic look and are the boards white?

Asked by Nors April 14, 2018

Answers

The boards are natural pine - not white - Eastern White Pine is the name of the tree the wood comes from. These do provide a look that is rather rustic. They have a smooth side that is a little more refined and a rough side that is more rustic - you can install it smooth side out or rough side out, whatever you prefer. You can finish it with a clear sealer and see the wood grain and variations in the natural color, or you can stain it, or you can paint it - very broad range of "look" that you can get from this material.

How do you figure out amount of boxes needed by square feet?

When wallpaper removal in our new home proved to be a bigger project due to the condition of the walls it was hung on, we decided to hang shiplap boards over it instead. I had a difficult time finding true shiplap. These boards from Home Depot were exactly what I was looking for and I could not be happier with the results. I do recommend ordering 20% more than you think the job will actually require - as some of the boards may have some warping or some cracks. I checked with Home Depot before placing my order to make sure any flawed boards could be returned to the store. If you are looking for true shiplap for your project, these boards do not disappoint. I did take the time to prime the boards prior to hanging. Two of us completed this project in 4 days.

Had to return 3 boxes worth due to damaged boards. Easier to pick them out in a store, but you can't. I would suggest ordering 20% more than what you need if you are doing an indoor project. Some of the boards were cracked down the middle or had knots that fell out which don't work for interior surfaces. There are faux shiplap boards available, but I needed something sturdy as I didn't use drywall.

The product looked nothing like the picture. It was not rough at all. It had very defined cut groves in in a pine board. One of the 3 boards had such a large knot that it could not have been used. I returned that boards.

Turned out great! Order a few different kinds and this one was by far the best. Pics online aren’t the best at all. You’d sell more of this if you updated those!
