Questions & Answers

Does this still have the 1/12th inch marking mistake? 1/12th inch is clearly a cultural misunderstanding, no one needs or wants that.

      Answer This Question

I have 3or 4 framing sq.they all have small bends. We just bend back straight.as long as edge along the 16 inch and 24 inch are straight where you mark your lines with pencil that’s all that matters. I’am sure Home Depot would trade out for you but it will do the same. I would just bend back straight in just be careful with it if it bothers you because they bend really easily. They also made in steel which are a lot stronger but they will rust pretty quick then you cannot see numbers. You have the best that will last a very long if you take of it.

Am I able to make calculations for angle measurements in one scale and use that scale on both faces of the square
      ByApr 23, 2018

      Answer This Question

I just checked my square and it is exactly the same on front and back; therefore, I'd say "yes" you may use the same scales on both faces.

      By|May 5, 2023

I see yes answers, but actually you most likely can not. One side is 1/8 and 1/16 scale, the same as most imperial tape measures. Strangely, the other side is 1/10 and 1/12, useful scales in their own right, but this does not allow the square to be flipped from face to face unless your calculations equate to the few available common denominators

      By|Jul 10, 2026

        (2)

Not sure I understand the question. 8ths and 16ths are on both sides, so you could use either side. 10ths and 12th are on only one side, so if you measure in 10ths or 12ths then flip to the other, you won’t have 10ths or 12ths on that side.

        By|May 5, 2023

Yes, this square allows measurements on both faces with the same scale.

PeAd , that's a great question the 16in. X 24in. LASER ETCHED FRAMING SQUARE is a tool with numerous calculations capabilities etched into the surface. No and I feel the same way you do . I want one in an 8x12 or 12x16 in aluminum and I cannot find one. As you know once the clear coat wears off of the steel you need to oil it or flash rust quickly starts... Our search continues...

I wondered the same thing when I bought my anodized aluminum square but did not find a small one, so I bought a small steel square to go with my large anodized aluminum square. Perhaps if the manufacturers are watching this Q & A they will know that at least two people would like to have a small anodized aluminum square.

This is a great framing square. Easy to find, easy to find your mark, and does well on sunny days while others can be hard to read. I've had two or three over the years, and they are worth a few extra dollars when shopping between other models and brands. Worth the investment, and should add o other quality empire tools in my belt

                          Sturdy with very clear markings
This square is well made with good finishes for the markings and feel. It doesn't seem to scratch up too easily and comes very straight with a good 90 degrees. Markings go all the way to the edge of the ruler so it's very easy to make precise measurements. I use this daily for woodworking projects and has proven to be reliable and accurate.

                            Great Framing Square
I've had this framing square over 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it. It is lightweight and very easy to read with the etching. It makes projects a lot easier and helps make me more confident. I don't have any dislikes for this product and it has met my expectations. Please hit thumbs up if this was helpful.

I recently moved to a rural area that has limited tool selections. I wanted a simple aluminum square with stamped 1/16 and 1/8 markings. Since I live in a coastal area I figured the anodized finish would be helpful. What I got was this square which has 1/16 and 1/8 markings on one side and 1/10 and 1/12 markings on the other. And the markings are “laser etched” whatever that means. It is basically a blue version of a cheap square with 50% of the markings unusable because of the scale and numbers that feel like they’re gonna rub off. I’d send it back but I already used it.

This aluminum square has very fine etched tick marks, making measurements more precise than the average steel framers’ square. Lighter weight too. Honestly though, what really made me buy it was the color.

The blue anodized color with etching really makes it easy to read in the sun. The anodizing will wear off as it did on my empire speed square, but it’s still visible and works well, so I have no doubt this square will last me a while.
