Questions & Answers

Does this still have the 1/12th inch marking mistake? 1/12th inch is clearly a cultural misunderstanding, no one needs or wants that.

      how do I get a 22.5 angel cut on a 2x4
      ByJan 15, 2022

      Answer This Question

Trying to eyeball 22.5 on the degree scale may be accurate enough but if you use the 5 on the common pitch scale (bottom of the slot) that will get you right there, perhaps a little more accurately.

Mark from the pivot line to the middle of the 22 and 23 degree hash mark on the outside diagonal edge where those numbers all represent angles from 0 to 90 degrees. They are labeled in increments of 5. So just draw a line starting at your pivot mark to the angle you’re looking for and draw a line straight through from one point to the other.

        By|Apr 21, 2026

          (5)

Begin by using your square to draw a 90 degree line across your 2x4 next use your square to draw a 45 degree line across the 2x4 measure down from the 90 degree line to the 45 degree line. Make a mark 1/2 way between the two. starting at the original apex, draw a line to the new mark in the center. that will be 22.5 degrees.

            (6)

Hold the "pivot" corner on the parallel 2x4. Pivot that point till the 22.5 degrees shows on the long angle line and mark it on the inch scale as in video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAilvHrOTsU

I have 3or 4 framing sq.they all have small bends. We just bend back straight.as long as edge along the 16 inch and 24 inch are straight where you mark your lines with pencil that’s all that matters. I’am sure Home Depot would trade out for you but it will do the same. I would just bend back straight in just be careful with it if it bothers you because they bend really easily. They also made in steel which are a lot stronger but they will rust pretty quick then you cannot see numbers. You have the best that will last a very long if you take of it.

This is a great framing square. Easy to find, easy to find your mark, and does well on sunny days while others can be hard to read. I've had two or three over the years, and they are worth a few extra dollars when shopping between other models and brands. Worth the investment, and should add o other quality empire tools in my belt

                                  Very inaccurate. Don’t buy it
I brought it home and tested it for accuracy. It was off by 1/16” over its 7” length. That’s more than 1/4” over 3 feet. Terrible product.

Not worth the money for inaccurate tool
As the saying goes you get what you pay for. If you're looking for accuracy for fine woodworking this is not the tool for you. Spend the money on good tools for accuracy. the Milwaukee version is more square than this version. This was the best looking one and more accurate when it was picked up at the store.

I've had this framing square over 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it. It is lightweight and very easy to read with the etching. It makes projects a lot easier and helps make me more confident. I don't have any dislikes for this product and it has met my expectations. Please hit thumbs up if this was helpful.

I recently moved to a rural area that has limited tool selections. I wanted a simple aluminum square with stamped 1/16 and 1/8 markings. Since I live in a coastal area I figured the anodized finish would be helpful. What I got was this square which has 1/16 and 1/8 markings on one side and 1/10 and 1/12 markings on the other. And the markings are “laser etched” whatever that means. It is basically a blue version of a cheap square with 50% of the markings unusable because of the scale and numbers that feel like they’re gonna rub off. I’d send it back but I already used it.
