Asked by: PEEWEE
This unit is designed to be mounted vertically, through the ceiling, but Broan does make a similar unit designed for wall mounting. I have one in my kitchen.

Above stove mounting

Can this fan be mounted above a range top or stove gas powered and still pass code
Asked by: KJ
No, this fan does not meet that application. There are plastic components in the fan and the heat from a stove stop will melt those components. It will not pass code.

180 CFM Ceiling Vertical Discharge Exhaust Fan is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent Great power with a great price tag. When you've got moisture issues in your bathroom from your children drawing faces in the steamed up mirror while your hot water tank is being expended, you've got 2 options: try to dry your raining bathroom ceilings (literally raining) and sweating walls or put this beast in and be confident that your bathroom walls and ceiling will stay as dry as my kids for the first 30 minutes or so when they're supposed to be showering.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rare Find And Fix Good "bang" for "buck". Aluminum flaps makes slight "tap" when raising and lowering, but nothing extreme. Installed in older home w/straight 8in pipe outlet to roof. Reccomend purchasing 8in to 6in sheet metal reducing sleeve as well IF installing unit into a pre-existing celing that is not going to allow you to be able to reach into and around unit when installing.Could not reach into hole and install my unit against rafters, so I had to fabricate my own tabs for anchoring directly into ceiling with from the ample supply of brackets provided w/unit. Rare find, simple fix and install, good unit for the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Moves air well, but It is loud. We renovated a room in our house that had an old wood burning stove. We removed the stove, but left the 8" dia. chimney in place, inserting an inline vent fan with cover controlled by a wall switch. This is the only room in the house where smoking is allowed. It seemed to work well for a season, but that inline vent fan couldn't keep up. I bought this fan to replace it and it works great for clearing the smoke out of the room. So well in fact, that it sucks all the heat out too. The only complaint is that it is very loud. So loud in fact, that I will have to replace it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good, would buy again This fan was installed in March 2012 in a large bathroom with a high ceiling. We wanted a powerful fan as it is a large room. Works fast and not as loud as you'd think for 6.5 sones. Home Depot website was easy to use and the shipping was pretty fast and the price was good. Would buy again.

As some of the other reviews have noted, it is on the loud side, but there hasn't been a wisp of steam/fog in the bathroom after a shower since I got it installed. One note, be careful not to lose the little rubber tabs that the backflow flaps rest on! If you secure them with a little dab of glue, you shouldn't have any problems at all. This wouldn't be great for a lived-in area (way too loud), but as a bathroom or shop exhaust fan, it is perfect. Great buy for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moves the air! Works great and definitely moves the air from front to my shop to the back and out the walls fast! Would definitely buy them again. Vary happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product. Easy to install The fan is easy to install with the enclosed adjustable brackets. I had a bit of trouble getting the fan out to make the electrical connections. After I discovered the fan blade needed to turn around the interior screws as it is removed the fan came right out. Quiet running. The large finish grill ensures the hole is covered completely.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, not as loud as I thought I bought this as a replacement to an older model, therefore I did not have to install the entire unit or build the ductwork for placing the fan. After reading some of the other reviews, I was a little concerned about the noise level of this fan. However, to my surprise, the fan was a lot quieter than the older Broan 505 model, so I was very pleased with this product. I have this installed in my bathroom and it works pretty well. It could probably be quieter, but I don't mind too much because it does a great job of sucking out the excess steam.
