Which edge-banding will match, mahogany birch, maple?

Which edge-banding will match, mahogany birch, maple?
Asked by: dragonmanmark
i mostly consider this paint grade stuff. it looks ok in a dark stain if you use a pre-conditioner. At that point really birch will be good enough. That said its solid enough and great for painted projects where edge banding matching does not matter.

Can You all Cut my 4x8 Plywood in 2x8 and 1 cut more,1x8

Can You all Cut my 4x8 Plywood in 2x8 and 1 cut more,1x8
Asked by: Dan
Can you get a 4' x 8' sheet into a 2' x 8' and rom the remaining piece, a 1' x 8'? Yes, of course. You're starting out with a 4' +/- .1875" wide by 8' (+/- .25"). Now, unless the saw blade's kerf is a foot wide, you can get 3 feet of width (2' x 8' (x1 piece) and a 1' x 8' piece) with approximately 11.625" x 96" left over. Typically, the kerf will be about .125". The folks at HD should be able to knock out these two rips with no problem. BEAR IN MIND that the HD folks are not gonna measure hypotenuse angles to ensure squareness for you. So, you may want to add about .5" to the widths of both cuts and when you get home, take your hypotenuse measurements and square up your two boards. That panel saw will make a straight line rip or crosscut, but if the sheet good is already out-of-square (and most likely it is), then your 2' x 8' and 1' x 8' will both be out-of-square. Just food for thought for those reading this. I presume you've had your sheet goods cut already, but to those who are contemplating the same or similar issue, maybe they'll get something out of this.

I purchased this wood (not knowing much about wood at all) to use for a basement bar that I built. I did not realize that this was not an easily matched wood. The bar turned out great, but I need some kind of edging/moulding for the bar top. Can anyone recommend what I could use that would look good with this? I originally thought pine might match this well. I am staining it an ebony color.
Asked by: Karnzo
If you put a sanding sealer on all the material before you stain it will all match. I had african mahogany frames on a pool table and pine legs. When I put the sanding sealer on everything matched perfectly. The local furniture material supply company in Atlanta where I lived at the time suggested this approach. You couldn't tell the difference, unless you put a fingernail to the pine legs since they were obviously a softer wood.

can this be used for workbench top

can this be used for workbench top
Asked by: js
About 50 years ago I used 3/4 “ good one face for my workbench top. I applied multiple coats of polyurethane. After about 40 years of abuse, it was badly beaten and abused. Got out my belt sander and sanded to a nice clean surface , filled the worst holes and gashes Sanded again and finished with multiple coats of leftover polyurethane. She is ready for another 50 years
