Which edge-banding will match, mahogany birch, maple?

Which edge-banding will match, mahogany birch, maple?
Asked by: dragonmanmark
Wow, thanks, Jeff from Sandeply for you complete non-answer. That was useless... Short answer is none. The sandeply brand is on the low end of the spectrum for good plywood. It'll do the job, structurally speaking, but because it's a blend of many types of wood, you'll never get a consistent match with a hardwood edge band. Painting is the way to go with this product, unless you want to leave the edges exposed (for shop project and the like), and I'd suggest reinforcing those edges to prevent chipping over time with a glue or epoxy.

Would this be suitable for a dog ramp? 13 year old 90# lab can't do 5 stairs anymore.

This is pretty good quality plywood, but is almost certainly made with interior glues that wouldn't hold up to weather as well as exterior grade plywood. I am assuming these are exterior steps. The very best would be marine grade plywood, but I don't think Home Depot sells it and it is really expensive. I would build a frame of pressure treated 2x's and cover it with 1/2" exterior plywood.

I purchased this wood (not knowing much about wood at all) to use for a basement bar that I built. I did not realize that this was not an easily matched wood. The bar turned out great, but I need some kind of edging/moulding for the bar top. Can anyone recommend what I could use that would look good with this? I originally thought pine might match this well. I am staining it an ebony color.
Asked by: Karnzo
if you are using an ebony stain, it doesn't much matter what edge banding you use. I would use birch or maple. Could use pine if you can find it. I suspect the veneer is quite porous, so you might want to use a pre-stain conditioner/sealer.

While it looks great in the store, this is really cheap plywood with a thin veneer that will not take stain or paint very well. When I stained the pieces I cut into shelves, the stain was very blotchy from what looked like leftover glue from the manufacturing of this plywood. I opted to paint the rest of the unstained shelves with Behrs latex paint. I first applied a primer that raised the grain so bad, it took hours of sanding and re-priming. It took 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of top coat with sanding between each coat to get a half-way decent finish. Will never purchase this plywood again.

I'm not sure how to give a piece of plywood 5 stars. However...hey @HomeDepot... At your cutting station, you clearly day that your rough cut to rip the plywood is a rough cut. A 5-star review might include a more accurate rough cut. That might bea value proposition that sets HD apart from the other guys.

I've built shelves wit it, and they start to bow after a while (granted, I've had heavy stuff on them, BUT prior plywood never bowed) so, good for light to moderate weight-requiring projects, and for smooth finsh

It warps badly after being cut and the less than 3/4 inch thickness is problematic when it comes to trying to route a dado. It's not worth the price, but you have little to no options to buy what was once plywood.

I made the mistake of buying it because it was "convent" and relatively inexpensive. Actually I thought it looked a bit "grainy" when I bought it. But because of the hyped up ad here "Key attributes: minimal core voids - a quality core helps eliminate chip out that can damage or destroy the work piece when sawn or routed, minimal core veneer overlaps - a quality core helps eliminate telegraphing to the face or back which can cause an uneven stain appearance when a stain is applied, calibrated panel - provides a uniform thickness to the panel from end or end that insures that all cut pieces of the project fit properly Sandeplywood delivers durable beauty in cabinets, furniture, shelving, wall panels, entertainment centers, tables and various interior projects", I thought I'd give it a shot. I built 17 cabinet doors out of it. I am now on my second day of filling, sanding and priming to try to get it to look "smooth". I've been building cabinets for over thirty years and I've had better results with CDX plywood. Maybe I got a bad batch, I don't know. But If I didn't...

There are some imperfections in the veneer but nothing some wood filler can't take care of. I wouldn't use this plywood for finish grade stain but it will pass when painted
