      Answer This Question

A:  Please call your local store and inquire. It possibly could be ordered by the Pro Desk if not in the store.

      by|Oct 20, 2022

A:  It should work just fine for that.  I used 2x6x16’ pressure treated southern yellow pine for my trailer over two years ago and it is holding up very well.  My trailer sits outdoors in the weather.

Q:Is it treated wood? Can i make raised vegetable bed using this wood?

          Answer This Question

A:  No, this is not treated lumber. If you choose to use this for a raised garden be prepared to replace it every few years as it rots away.

A:  Wood that has not been pressure treated to the appropriate end use retention level will eventually decay when exposed to a moist environment. The decay is exacerbated when the wood is in direct contact with soil. If the design is non-structural it will work for a limited period of time but it will eventually have to be replaced.

A friend of mine saw a number of TikTok videos where coffee tables were made using southern yellow pine 2x10s and asked me to make one. I picked out several suitable boards from the many available at my local store. I got 3 - 8' lengths which were all really nice. They were dry and straight. The results after building the table were, according to my friend, amazing.

Good straight boards. Used for some shelving for my two son's armwrestling awards. Stained and used some brackets from Home Depot as well.

As long as you are not ripping...
Bought six of these with the intention of ripping 2 into halves, to join together to make four 2" X13.5" planks for a rustic headboard. Pulled two out with the best grain to rip. Started on one (new Dewalt blade) and as I was ripping was discouraged to see the kerf disappear, the board pinching together. Finished that stick and had two arching bow staves when done. Tried to do a second, halfway through the plank exploded apart to relieve the grain stress. Have to rethink my headboard...

              Makes great DIY shelves
I used an 8 foot board cut down to two 40inch shelves. You definitely need to sand it well before putting stain and then I applied one coat of poly. Looks great with my black brackets.

2x10 and 2x12 yellow pine is great wood for making a large - strong (never-sag) - cost-effective - attractive - durable bookcase! You have to pick through the boards to find some that are not marred excessively with defects - and you might want to "match" the boards for color and grain, but good clean boards are common enough for a fruitful search. After allowing some time for the polyurethane finish to cure, the result can be quite nice.
