Is it strong enough to support a desk (using it as legs)? What about a coffee table (using it as legs again -- see picture)?
Asked by: Reka
No It is not strong enough to support that type of coffee table. The design is wrong. I would not trust it. If some one were to set on it and it were to start to bend to one side it would fall and could hurt some one.

I would recommend 2x4 or 2x6's. At least that's what I would want.

2 in. x 2 in. x 8 ft. Furring Strip Board is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 71.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lumber quality has gone way downhill I often buy furring strips for temporary projects... inexpensive low grade lumber with knots & occasional rough areas, but still adequate for quick projects and mock ups. My latest venture into HD for these 2x2 furring strips was very disappointing. Really rough areas running the entire length, to the point that many of the boards were triangular. Bad splits and cracks, knot holes so big the board breaks just by picking up at one end. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that I was just seeing the picked over pile, a new bundle of lumber was opened, and it was just as bad. I took a photo, I would share it if I could. The best job application for this stuff is firewood.

I had to get some wood for a project yesterday, I was going to get these but I could not find 3 good pcs in the whole stack. either they were cracked, badly warped, malformed, etc. I ended up having to go find another wood I could use on the spot. And I was getting them to make a bearded dragon tank for the corner supports, never mind trying to use 8 foot lengths for a real house. I don't know what else to say other then this wood was horrible.

To get 5 pieces of "decent" wood takes about 25 minutes to find. And I use the term "decent" very loosely. The employees are of no help either. When you ask them if they can help you make a selection they look at you and mouth breathe. When I asked what the difference is between the pressure treated furring strips and the non pressure treated strips, the guy looked at me and said "well one of them is pressure treated and the other isn't." Gee, thanks, Einstein.

Of the eight pieces of these I bought for a project last month, two were relatively straight. The rest would have made great hockey sticks. I get the whole bend-before-you-nail thing, so most of them worked fine in the end, but the last time I bought some of these, about 10 years ago, they were a) much better quality and b) cost less than they do now. Not sure if this is part of a business plan, which is probably working out well for someone. Just not for me.

Because some of them were intended for a hidden area on the chair I was building they worked, but I had to pick through them to get decent chair legs. Edges were missing and chewed up in some cases. I should've picked them out myself.

I've been buying 2x2x8 for two years, I use them to make frames for bars to attach the façade, the frame is visible from he inside of the bar, so I was very happy with the finish and feel of this wood and how well it took stains and sealers. Yesterday I went to the Home Depot (Near Colonial dr and Semoran blvd, Orlando, FL) and bought 4 6-packs of 2x2x8, today I opened them up, every single piece was absolute trash, very poorly cut, bent, twisted, with all kinds of marks and black stains, and staples all over the wood. I have 6 leftovers from my last project and the difference is night and day, the branding seems to be different, so I don't think they come from the same mill, however the price is the same (And quite high tbh compared to a year ago). I'm returning all of them and moving on to another construction store that I'll keep from mentioning to avoid biasing this review. (Attaching pictures, showing the 24 I bought yesterday and on the floor the 6 I had from a previous purchase)

Ended up buying some bundles, hoping that being strapped together would force them straight, but these came out almost fully twisted. Still managed to get the job done, just glad I bought 6 more than I needed.
