No, they would soak up liquids. I think people use maple since it looks nice. Personally I would use bamboo.

As a person who knows the "Oldways", you know a bundle is made up to meet your request. You request 200-2"x2"x10' equals a bundle of 200 boards. Contact your local (nearest) Homedepot store ask for the Pro Desk, they have your answer. Telephone before the email is sometimes a better business practice for us Oldways operators.
