Assuming I can find straight ones can these be used to make a butcher block desktop?

Asked by Thatguy February 5, 2021

Answer

Hello Thatguy, Your name is applicable to your question. Certainly, many planks of wood are used in various applications. The dimensions of the lumber (assuming straight) yes, it will fit your question. The practicality of using furring strip pine for a butcher block table I would do additional research. A simple web search offered these types of woods for the application. Certainly, your local Homedepot store might provide you with customer (not custom) cutting.

Hello Oldways, I found your question interesting. I am not an employee or associated with Homedepot except as a customer. As a person who knows the "Oldways", you know a bundle is made up to meet your request. You request 200-2"x2"x10' equals a bundle of 200 boards. Contact your local (nearest) Homedepot store ask for the Pro Desk, they have your answer. Telephone before the email is sometimes a better business practice for us Oldways operators.

Discount lumber at its worst! I used curbside pick-up for an online order. BIG MISTAKE!!! They obviously use this method to dump all of their junk lumber. I ordered 35 of these. 2 of them had knots that went nearly all of the way through such that they broke before I could even get them out of my truck. Over 1/2 of the remaining 33 have either massive knots making large sections unusable, especially in 8' lengths, or multiple splits that you can see daylight through to the other side. A complete waste of money. And yes, over half - 22 of the 33 do not have 8' of usable board. I will be going to another lumber store for future purchases.

Very poor quality, one piece of lumber was actually unusable as an eight foot length due to a huge knot at the end. I sent an email to local manager and never heard back from him. I had just returned to Home Depot after being away from them for over a year due to a poor customer service experience. I don’t think I’ll be back.

warped and unusable
They gave me warped, unusable boards. Waste of time and money. Said they were the only ones they had. I paid online in advance so trying to get a refund during the covid mess would've taken way too long.

We recently got a load of 2x2's and they were terrible. We have ordered over $50,000 of lumber this this. Our Home Depot is the one in the Harahan Location and they give us the best lumber that they possibly can. The problem comes in when the Harahan location has my lumber yet it gets pulled from another location. This is absolutely ridiculous especially when my company is less than a mile away. We ship very high end pieces of furniture all around and we need quality lumber. Not a very happy customer. The Harahan location does a great job in meeting our needs but all of your stores should carry the same standards.

These furring boards are just that. They aren't milled the greatest and you have to search thru the whole pile to find any straight ones. But they work for the intended purpose.
