You defiantly need a longer ladder. Your ten-foot ladder will be very close to vertical and dangerous. You might want to get a stepladder instead. I use an eight-foot ladder and it's comfortable on ten-foot walls.
I was wondering the same thing, and I believe so. The listing says they’re HEAT TREATED, and UNTREATED (w/ chemicals) — this also means the wood scraps can be used in a fire.
The ones I've bought have slightly rounded edges.
