I believe HD will cut your wood for you within reason. Its back in the rear of the stores. I know they do plywood but not sure of lumber.

It is very strong and durable. Can easily be sanded, even without a sanding machine. Also, what I like about those studs, hey are straight. When you put them together for building a table, they align very well, with almost no gap between. The pine studs, also I checked at Home Depot are not that smooth and straight. Also, when you stain those studs they look awesome. The wood features becomes super visible and it looks like a super high quality hard wood. Actually, it is high quality, from all the aspects I listed above. An other advantage is that those studs take the nail and screws extremely well. No cracks. Perfect for rookies like me. Sometimes I put a wood screw and pull back multiple times, because of lack of competence, as I can't screw straight and correctly on each time. It holds screws extremely well. And it is so soft that you can use the screw driver and put screws easily with smooth penetration. I would highly recommend.

I'm a D-I-Y-er who takes the time to construct a wall plumb and level....probably way more particular than most. The quality of the lumber coming out of the mills (not Home Depot's fault) is not what it used to be. Be prepared to spend some time sorting through "the stack". I am buying these twenty at a time for a basement remodel and had to sort through over 100 to find twenty that were not severely warped. Then had to return four of the twenty as they warped within a week of being stored in my basement. I continue to buy due to the convenience, "no hassle" return policy, competitive price and the fact I have the time to sort through the pile.

I used the 2 in. x 4 in. x 96 in. prime kiln-dried whitewood studs as railing for our wood fence. The railings were fastened between the posts and the cedar boards were nailed to the railings. Having the railings be kiln-dried prevents any shrinking and were much easier to cut to size between the posts. The fence was completed two months ago and to date I have been really pleased with the results. The studs certainly met my expectations.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from If you have a crooked six-pence... then you may be interested in building your crooked house with these crooked studs. It took me a half hour of going through over 100 studs to find a dozen that were even remotely straight. Brought them home and let them aclimate and half of them were twisted beyond usability. The image I've attached is of a stud that was flat when I bought it. the other end is flat on the floor.

Happened in to get some lumber at HD last week and saw 2x4x8 prime lumber stack near the front door. Grabbed several looking for the usual twisted warped lumber and to my surprise, almost every single piece was beautifully straight and fantastic tight grain wood. This was the best looking lumber I've ever seen at HD. These are a keeper. Good job.

Picture a stud that God himself would use to build the universe. This stud is better. Satisfaction derived from the purchase of this stud is unequaled. God bless Home Depot for giving me the opportunity to make such a phenomenal buy.

When I went to check out they had the correct bar code on them even though they were not Whitewood studs. Had they been whitewood studs, I would not have purchased them, but would have purchased air dried Douglas fir instead.
