Q:What is the recommended method for securing 2" T&G board to the floor joists? Screws, nail gun, hand nail? Can't find flooring nail gun that shoots 2 1/2" nails, worried that 2" nails in tongue won't be long enough because wood is so thick.

I've used this product to make the top (work surface) of several workbenches, and I've been completely satisfied with it. Since the 1970's, I've built several shop workbenches...first for myself, then for friends, now for my children. They've ranged in size, but it seems most people prefer the size of my bench, 72" x 30" -- big enough to do most projects, small enough to fit in most workshops or garages. I use 4x4 legs, 2x4 rails & stretchers, one shelf of 3/4" CDX, and sides and back of 1/4"CDX (to provide absolute lateral rigidity). But I've always used car-decking for the tops -- properly screwed or nailed down to 4 stretchers, the T&G boards give you a stable, solid work space. I tack down a sheet of hardboard on top of the car-decking to provide a smooth, flat, and replaceable work surface. The last two I made, I used Home Depot T&G decking boards...what I call car-decking. They're made from spruce, are relatively free of knots and blemishes, and are well-dried. Three 12-ft boards, cut in half, give you a perfect 72" x 30" bench top.
