About This Product

Pressure-Treated Southern Yellow Pine meets the highest grading standards for strength and appearance. Treated for protection against fungal decay, rot and termites, it is ideal for ground contact and a variety of general uses including exposed structures, sill plates, decks, docks, ramps and other outdoor applications. Responsibly manufactured from renewable southern yellow pine, this lumber is both safe and environmentally friendly when used as directed in appropriate applications.Treated wood is typically still wet when it's delivered to The Home Depot or job site. As it dries, you should expect slight changes in width and length. As lumber dries, it may split, cup and warp. This is more likely to occur to occur in lower-grade boards, where knots and uneven grains are already present. Each piece of lumber is unique and carries physical characteristics that may include the following: knots, warping, shrinkage, swelling and/or splitting. Nominal Dimensions: 2 in. x 8 in. x 10 ft. (Actual Dimensions: 1.5 in. x 7.5 in. x 10 ft.)

Questions & Answers

When these boards dry and shrink, will they become shorter than the 8ft nominal length?
ByFeb 17, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Matt, Pressure-treated lumber can shrink as it dries, but the shrinkage is mainly in the width and thickness, not the length. In most cases, a 12 ft board will not become noticeably shorter, though a very slight change (fractions of an inch) is possible. For best results, leave proper spacing and allow the boards to acclimate before installing if possible.

        Are these boards UC4C rated?
        ByJan 29, 2025
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

This lumber is ground contact pressure-treated, meaning it's suitable for ground contact applications, not specifically rated as UC4C. It is treated with Micronized Copper Azole (MCA).

Planned use is for a deck. Moisture content states Green in the spec. Does that imply I need to let it dry out for some time before cutting and using it for joists? If so, being in mid October, what amount of time does it need to sit to avoid shrinkag?
          ByOct 12, 2023
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

HomeAlone, yes, that is correct. Treated wood is typically delivered to our retailers while still retaining moisture. To determine if the wood has dried, a useful method is to sprinkle droplets of water onto the surface. If the water droplets are absorbed, then the wood is dry. If the water droplets form beads on the surface, it indicates that the wood is still too wet.

              Answer This Question

Sunday, If we understand you correctly, you've got pressure-treated lumber that has been stored on the ground for one year, and now you are considering using it for a deck. Any boards that are touching the ground cannot be used for joists for the deck.

I have always used the treated lumber for my raised garden or raised flower beds,...... It does not break down and it does not seem to interfere with any growing process.....

Several of the pieces of lumber had very bad spots on them. I will not use online ordering again because of the lumber I was given.

I ordered the unbranded 2 in. X 8 in. X 8 ft. Ground contact pressure treated southern yellow pine lumber to be used as shelves in my home. They came out great. Now all I need to do is paint or sand and varnish and it will look fantastic. I used some little L brackets and it’s holding well so far.

Product was exactly what I needed. First I used it for the supports under a temporary stage in my backyard and then used it to rebuild the raised beds in my garden. The bulk discount worked out great as well.

I am impressed with the Unbranded 2” x 8” x 8’ pressure treated wood I bought from Home Depot. The wood is very straight, not a lot of knots, and was delivered in excellent condition. I need to replace several areas under the garage roof of my 1942 home, which have rotted out over the years. This wood is going to be perfect for that job!

Used for replacement deck surface. Most in stock had similar grain for minimal similar cupping. Which is likely since the wood was heavy, probably due to high moisture content. Thickness varied by one quarter inch requiring arranging to accommodate. Not a big deal, but the lengths varied almost two inches. Quite a few knots but overall, for the price, was the best option for the job.
