About This Product

The Multi Mark will help you get the perfect drywall cutout every time with no measuring. It can be used for practically all electrical boxes: metal, plastic, composite, rectangle, round, octagon, multi-gang, single-gang, standard, or thin. Just insert the target in the receptacle before hanging drywall. When you're ready to cut the hole, hold the Multi Mark Locator magnet over the area where you think the receptacle is located. When it finds the receptacle, the magnets will snap precisely into place where the receptacle is located. Trace around the locator, cut, then install. With the Multi Mark you simply put it up once, cut the hole and you're done.

Questions & Answers

Will this work with T&G lumber?

Answer This Question

Our Multi Mark was designed for up to 3/4 inch stock so it would depend on the thickness of your T&G.

It looks like all the examples are with boxes without any wires; I'm putting up new wall with existing boxes with wires. Will this product still work?

    Answer This Question

Even if the box has existing wires, tape or cap the ends of the wires and push it in the box/can. One of the blocks attaches to the screw hole and then you put up your Sheetrock, once installed take the sister/ (other block) and pass it along the Sheetrock and it will snap on place. Note if you have a can with two outlets you may need two blocks for in the can or use one for the location and measure for the rest

Depends on how many wires....In a single gang box, I was able to cram the wires back and still use it. I had two romex 12/2 with a ground and didn’t have any issues. The few where I had three 12/2 w/ground romex wires was a bit tricky but got it to work. Obviously if the wire is hot, put a wire nut on it and tape it and then shove it to the back of the box (safety first). The targets are just under 5/8ths inch thick but only need about 1/2in of space in the box for the target. Get them, makes the job WAY easier!

If you have receptacles/plugs installed on those wires you should use our Plug Mark which is designed for use on existing outlets in rehab and remodeling work. If you only have wires, depending on your wire fill in the box you may still be able to use our MultiMark or BlindMark as the “target” only needs to go into the box about ½” deep – so if you can push wires back to allow that, both models should work. Hope this helps!

What if you are drywalling over live boxes, where are you supposed to put the target?

I just pushed the wires back into the back part of the box or to the sides; however, my wires weren't hot. I flipped the breaker. Worth the effort.

It worked nicely for what I needed ...but the outer edge for the rectangle box isn't big enough for my electrical box ...so once I got it close, I made a cardboard template to remark it. I needed this to do 7 electrical boxes. The magnets worked pretty good for going through 3/8" sheathing. I thought I'd get this option instead of just the rectangular box ...if I had to do it again ...I'd probably just get the box ...I don't do this stuff for a living :-)

                          Amazingly simple and effective tool
For years and years I've been doing construction and renovation jobs for my business, family and friends. Doing proper cutouts in wallboard for switches, outlets and light fixtures is a time consuming exercise in the ability to take accurate measurements. It's all too easy to get distracted and ruin a sheet. I first tried the Blind Mark BMWK a very ingenious tool. The one major drawback for me was that the outlet or switch has to be removed from the box to use it. It's perfect for new construction, before the outlets and switches are installed but the time it takes to empty and refill the boxes kind of negates the time saving factor for renovations. (Image 1 Below) Next, I purchased the Plug Mark kit which doesn't require the removal of the outlet to use. Of course it's no help with switches, they still have to be removed first. (Image 2 Below) I was so pleased with these products I then purchased the Multi Mark kit which works for anything including round and octagon boxes which I use a lot for ceiling fans and light fixtures. (Images 3, 4, 5, 6 Below) When first testing this product on a scrap piece of wall board the locator snapped to the board instantly but something didn't seem right. Sure enough, when I looked behind the board the top magnet of the locator was attached to the bottom magnet of the target. I discovered there are two simple solutions to identify this when it happens in the field. One is to take a measurement from the center of the box to the floor before starting the install or, a quicker way, is to twist the locator. If it's set on both magnets it will resist the twist. If it's attached to only one magnet it will twist easily. I corrected the problem, outlined the locator and went to work with my Roto-Zip. Staying just outside the line I cut three sides quickly but the fourth side, next to the stud, caused a problem. The bit wouldn't go in deep enough to cut the wallboard. In their video their box is not touching the stud so the bit has clearance all the way around. For me, not a deal breaker, I used my multi-tool for the final cut. The cutout was perfect. No need for Midway or Jumbo plates. These are now my "Go To" tools for new construction and rehab work.
