This type of tool works so well that it is hard to believe I waited so long to get one. They make cleaning the filter screens in the pop-up sprinkler heads so much easier. I had been using a clamp when they were on and then turning off the sprinkler to clean the filter. These pliers allow you to easily pull up the head and clamp it for cleaning the filter screen. There are two main brands, Orbit and Rain Bird, and I bought both to try them out. The Orbit costs less, but the Rain Bird works a little better. Either one is fine, but I do think the Rain Bird is worth paying a little extra for. The key difference, as you can see in the photo, is that the Orbit has smooth jaws while the Rain Bird has slightly serrated jaws, making them grip better on a wet pipe without excessive pressure.

It does work…but did not impress. Changing a nozzle on a sprinkler head is a bit of a dance. Anybody that has tried to hold up the tube with one hand and unscrew the nozzle with the other has also watched it slip away and retract back into the body. This is usually followed by some words not meant for younger ears and then a struggle to get it back up by sticking in your finger and trying to over come the spring. This Orbit tool is intended to help with this problem. I didn’t have any success with the tool in pulling up a sprinkler head that still has the nozzle installed. I still had to use a blade of a screwdriver to pry the head up from the body. But it does work pretty well to hold up the tube once extended (see photo). But it is really handy to have when a tube without a nozzle retracts. Unfortunately I haven’t tested it against a competitive product. Others have mentioned Rain Bird. If I had to change a lot of heads this tool would be worth the purchase. At less than $7 bucks it is not a major purchase. But a flat blade screw driver and some patience you can get the job done without it. About my ratings: 5 stars – Exceeds all expectations. Better than the competition in all aspects, design, cost, operation, and support (A+). 4 stars – Nicely done. Better than the competition and solves the problem. (B) 3 stars – Works as expected. Has some shortcomings but gets the job done. Might be short in design, cost, longevity, or support. (C). 2 stars – Falls short of expectations and needs improvement. Pass and look elsewhere. (D) 1 star – Fails miserably. Does not get the job done, might even make things worse. Someone at the company should be fired. (F)

This sprinkler pull-up tool works quite well, and is of decent quality. It has a tapered nose that you can slide under the sprinkler head and lift it up, then you can slide it in to the middle curved part which will go around the pop up tube to hold it up, the spring is usually enough to clamp the tube in the up position and hold it up. There is also a little allen screw one the side that I assume is to clamp it down tighter for tougher springs on the pop up tube. I don't know for sure because the instruction say nothing about it, if that is its intended purpose it would be nicer if it was a thumb screw as the allen head is hard to grip especially with wet hands, and having an allen wrench with you kind of defeats the purpose of the all-in-one tool. If you let the pop up tube slide back down inside the sprinkler the pliers does a good job of reaching down inside to grab it and pull it back up. I am sure you could purchase a thumb screw for it which would help. All in all a handy little tool that does what it is supposed to do

Very handy in Florida with St Augustine grass and pop-ups that disappear under 3 inches of thatch. The only way to find the sprinkler head is to run the irrigation and mark the location with a flag (or something). This tool comes in handy to isolate and pull up the pop-up to grass level. Otherwise the only alternative is to to cut away the thatch and pull it up by hand. I included a couple of pics but basically this tool allowed me to quickly pull up the pop-up and hold it in place for repairs. A handy little tool when working on irrigation systems in Florida with St Augustine grass and thick thatch.

I have wanted one of these sprinkler pull-up tools for ever. Over the years I have used my needle nose pliers, regular pliers, screw drivers, etc.... in order to work on my sprinkler heads. This one simple tool is perfectly engineeered to replace all of those tools. It works perfectly for pulling the sprinkler head out of the ground and once you have it pulled up you can place them around the base of the sprinkler head while you change out the sprinkler head itself. This leaves both hands free to get the job done in seconds vs. trying to do it one handed. This tool does not leave teeth marks all around the base of the sprinkler like using pliers does so it won't scar the plastic all up like I have done in the past. Once you scar the plastic the sprinkler does not want to go up and down as smoothly as it did before so this tool is absolutely perfect. If you are one of those people that replaces your sprinkler heads, removes the filters for cleaning or does any type of maintenance on your sprinkler heads this is tool you have been looking for. I can't believe I have wasted all those years not having one of these in my tool box.

Spring popped off as soon as I tried to use it. Doesn’t have the strength to hold up sprinkler head. Total piece of garbage!

Great tool for working on sprinkler heads. Gripping end makes raising the sprinkler body easy, while the spring-loaded gripping section keeps it raised while working on the head.
