No, this is poplar and will not look like oak when varnish. You could stain it golden oak but it wouldn't have the same open grain pattern
Yes all of those would work to cut the dowel and it's very easy to break so be careful
The easiest way is with a razor saw. "Zona" brand is popular in hobby stores and "Huron" brand at craft stores. I've had less success with fine tooth hacksaw blades and metal cutting (fine tooth) jig saw blades. The problem with these is their wide kerf. It takes a lot of thrust to make them work; and for most people a vise is necessary. Only the razor saw can be used while simply holding the dowels. As a model enthusiast kid, I cut dowels by rolling the under an Xacto knife. It works, but the end seldom is square and flush. With a vise, you could also use a coping saw or any Dremel / Foredom tool or cut-off tool.
To show you the diameter of the dowel.
Closet poles normally are 1-1/2 inches or larger in diameter. Check the size of hanger hooks you intend to suspend. I assume the "dot" is a representation of the dowel's circular cross-section; i.e., meant to be a simplified end view of the product.
The second dimension is the round dimension, the third dimension is the length of the dowel.
Agree. I think this is a result of advertisement writers forcing dowels into the 'product dimensions' template of H x W x L, whereby both height and width default to the diameter.
