What motar base is used on this shower base
DreamLine recommends installing the SlimLine shower base in a bed of mortar or another suitable bedding material for proper support. A standard sand-and-cement mortar mix can be used; avoid products containing stones or large aggregate that could interfere with leveling. You answered that the Dreamline base can be used with the Nextile walls by Bootz but it has to be installed correctly. The surround will have to be installed correctly for all applications correct?
Yes, all shower wall surrounds must be installed according to their specific installation instructions. However, proper installation does not guarantee cross-brand compatibility. The DreamLine SlimLine base and Bootz NexTile walls were not specifically designed or tested as a matched system, so compatibility depends on factors such as the base’s tiling flange, wall dimensions, and how the NexTile panels interface with the base. For a manufacturer-approved installation, it is best to use the NexTile walls with a compatible Bootz base.
Is this a non slip surface
Yes. The DreamLine SlimLine shower base has a textured, slip-resistant floor surface designed to provide added traction while showering.
Is the shower pan 36 inches wide from edge to edge or is the inner part 36 inches wide and edge to edge more like 40 to 42?
The 36" measurement is the overall outside depth of the shower base, from edge to edge. The inner standing area is smaller than 36". The full base measures approximately 60" x 36" overall, so you do not need a 40"–42" space to accommodate the base.
How thick is mortar bed supposed to be for shower base
For the DreamLine SlimLine shower base, the mortar bed should be approximately 1 inch thick, using enough mortar to provide full support beneath the base without raising it excessively. The mortar should not be placed under or around the drain fitting. Set the base into the mortar while it is still workable, then level it according to DreamLine’s installation instructions.
Contractor redid bathroom 6 years ago and installed the shower pan without mortar. Now it creaks and flexes. What recourse do I have? Can the contractor be forced to come back and tear it out and redo with mortar?

If it was installed without the required support and is now flexing or creaking, the installation should be inspected because continued movement could eventually damage the base or drain connection. Whether the contractor can be required to return after six years depends on the contractor’s workmanship warranty and applicable state/local laws, so DreamLine cannot determine that obligation. Regarding the size concern, shower bases are manufactured to specific finished dimensions listed in the product specifications. It’s important to confirm the exact model number and published dimensions prior to installation, as some bases are designed to fit within framed openings rather than match nominal framing dimensions exactly. If your unit measured differently than the published specs, that’s something we would absolutely want documented.
