I can’t say for certain, but I think not. The brackets are specifically designed to snap into the wire shelves. Because of their design, the wire shelves are very rigid once installed. If you are trying to change the look, there are front caps that hide the front of the wire shelf as well as plastic liners that allow for a smooth surface.

I really do not know if a wooden shelf option is available for this product or not, but I seriously doubt it. If you really want a wooden shelf after the unit is installed I would suggest using 1/4 inch plywood. This could be fastened with a bolt, nut and washer large enough to cover the space between the wires, or even by making a couple of holes and using a piece of wire with ends twisted together underneath. The limitless configurations of this system are awesome. We have two in our bedroom and they are great. The wires are close enough together that I have not found it necessary to use a solid shelf. If you have small items, an old shoe box or plastic tray from Dollar Tree would also work well.
I can't remember the exact dimensions of the box but it fit across the back seat of my mid-size sedan. Box is a bit heavy so I had a male employee cart it to my car and place it in the back seat. Hope this helps.
It's been awhile since we installed these but the boxes were small enough to fit in a VW Passat wagon.

Following the directions to screw the top bar into studs is quite sturdy and would have prevented your situation. So what to do? I see two options. Screw the hangar bar into studs as directed and remove the too-long anchors. I'm guessing you used metal butterfly wing anchors with a long bolt to make it work. If you really want to use this method, remove the ones you have and replace them with ones that have a shorter bolt that will stay inside the wall cavity. If you cannot find shorter ones you can always cut the bolt off to make it fit. Once the offending anchors have been removed you need to patch the holes in the family room drywall. Make a depression about 1/8 inch deep with a hammer using gentle taps until the depression is deep enough. Fill with 3-4 coats of sparkle, sand smooth, prime and paint. Problem solved!
I found the system flexible enough to to make sure I anchored the main top rail into wall studs. I used the anchors provided along with zip pits to hold the up/down rails that hold the brackets and shelving in place. In some cases I hit wall studs with those as well. I did 5 closets with this system with not issues of anchors showing in another room or hall. Hope this helps
It's the typical white plastic coating.
No, it is white metal, not coated.
Yes. They can cut it to size at the Home Depot Store
You could install it and just leave a couple inches on either side.
Local hardware stores may carry the top rail only.
