Will this fit over 3/8" galvanized pipe?
        ByJul 9, 2019

        Answer This Question

The OD of 1/2" PEX, CPVC and copper are 0.625. The OD of 3/8" galvanized steel pipe is 0.675. I don't think this will fit.

        By|Nov 2, 2025

Our 1/2 in. nominal x 3-1/2 in. length cover tube is best with 1/2 in. nominal tube or a similar sized iron pipe. We recommend use of a tube cutter to adjust length to fit installation. If you have any questions or have any other feedback, please contact our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755.

            Answer This Question

Hello Christina-This is a great question. Yes, this 8489 C could be used to cover CPVC that is stubbed out. CPVC, and PEX tubing are the same outside diameter (OD) as copper. If you have any other questions please contact our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755 for assistance.

We are replacing a bathroom vanity with a pedestal sink, and really want a nice finished look. Currently we have a threaded copper stub coming out from the wall. I can easily replace the valves and would like to use this tube to cover the tarnished copper, but want to know if the escutcheon plate at the wall would need to be a special one or will a normal one fit.

A standard 1/2" escutcheon with a 5/8" ID will not fit over this tube. The tube is about 11/16" OD

Thank you Bob for the question. Yes, you can use a standard 1/2 in. Nom. Copper Tube Escutcheon with this cover tube. Home Depot carries a shallow (Internet item # 205214926) and bell (Internet item # 205214768) version. Any additional questions please feel free to give us a jingle at 877-272-7755.

No special item needed. Regular escutcheon will work.

Clean your 1/2 inch copper pipe with steel wool. The chrome plated cover will slide over it and the end should slide into a regular sized diameter eustachian cover. A compression type shut-off valve works nicely on the end. It will give a nice appearance.

In other words, the toilet feed line is already completed and the toilet has been installed. Can it be slipped around the existing pipe?

                            Answer This Question

Hi JB - this cover tube is meant to slip over the exposed 1/2 in. copper tubing (stub out) from the wall or floor before you connect the shut-off valve to the pipe. It can be cut to size using a tube cutter. Hope this is the answer you were looking for. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us toll-free at 877-272-7755.

This chrome plated tube fit nicely over my 1/2 inch copper pipe which was exposed for a toilet fill connection. It provides an attractive appearance adjacent to the chrome shut-off valve and chrome eustachian cover. I only need half of it, but it was easily cut shorter with a hacksaw.

This item should be in stock at all stores. It slides over the 1/2" copper line and dresses up the look at toilet and pedestal sink locations. The copper has to be very clean for this to slide over. Overall this product works just as intended.

I had a piece of 1/2" PEX coming up through the floor for a toilet supply. It would have been a pain to convert it to chrome iron pipe. This was the perfect solution. It slipped right over the PEX. Just leave enough exposed to install a shutoff valve & you're good to go. I wish they stocked these in the stores though. You don't always have the option to wait for a special order to come in to complete a job.

Simple piece that worked great to cover up 1/2 copper stub from wall. I cut my sleeve about 1/2 short, pushed the chrome escutcheon and sleeve all the way to the wall, then soldered my shutoff on the copper, then pulled the sleeve as close to my solder joint as possible. Works great.
