The 7284 replaced the 7184. Both are adjustable. Therefore, if you know how your older version was configured the new version could be configured to act the same way.
Yes it will. The newer version being offered by The Home Depot has the additional option of TT contacts which a contractor may choose to use in certain installations. As the version you are replacing does not have this feature the contractor will most likely leave them unused.
Both this and the model you reference are universal oil burner primary controls. Hence the U in the model number. So to that extent they are the same and one can be used in replacement of the other. But it is not as simple as just swapping them out. Because they are universal controls they need to be configured to operate correctly for the specific application. To do this you would need an understanding of the logic utilized in the appliances ignition logic. Based on this you would set the parameters of the control.
As this is a universal control in the vast majority of cases it can. However, to do it properly requires an understanding of the logic built into the oil appliances cascade of burner operations. The industry does not use a standardized system of wiring color codes so it is not as easy as just matching up wires. It requires a knowledge of what is going on. I also want to mention and I mean know insult if you are familiar with burners, that many times when the button pops customers assume that the control has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Often it is not, and in fact it is doing its job. This devise is called often referred to as a Cad Cell relay. The cad cell is a light detecting bulb. If it senses a bad or dirty flame it shuts the system down to prevent the serious consequences that come from a bad flame. So you may want to confirm that the appliance does not need a cleaning or service.
Yes, it is a universal replacement for any cad cell equipped older intermittent ignition controller. Upon initial setup make sure you select NO for the 'TT' connection
This universal Resideo oil burner primary control could be used to replace most residential oil burner primary controls; the ICM control you mention included. A qualified oil tech would have no problem with that. However it is not a simple task for the untrained. Going to this control would require having a working knowledge of the appliances control strategy so that you could program the control to respond properly. As well as a working knowledge of the systems wiring logic as the wire colors are not universal.
Yes this universal primary is compatible to the one you reference.
