Questions & Answers

can this support human weight
ByJun 10, 2024
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

This rope has a working load limit if 212 lbs. It is not meant for any application where safety is a concern or overhead lifting. It would depend on the application to determine the weight being applied to the rope.

Can this nylon rope be used in self-watering pots to absorb water from lower reservoir to moisten the pot soil?
    ByJun 1, 2024
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

This rope is made of nylon, which is absorbent. It could wick water upwards, but it's designed as general-purpose rope, not specifically for watering pots. A dedicated watering wick or cord designed for planters would be more efficient for that purpose.

The description of this solid braided rope does not mention an inner core. Is it correct to assume that there is no inner core that when the rope is in water, the inner core pops out every few feet of the rope that was under water ruining the whole rope.

      Answer This Question

There is no inner core in this product. You would not have that problem with this rope.

Does this stretch? I need for dog run line.
          ByJun 6, 2022
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

Nylon rope will stretch under load, up to approximately 20% at its breaking point. While it will return to its original shape after tension is released, the stretching may not be ideal for a dog run line where consistent tautness is desired. A non-stretch or low-stretch material like polyester rope might be a more suitable option for a dog run.

Does this rope stretch, i.e. is it dynamic or static rope?
          ByMay 31, 2022
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

From what I've read, nylon rope will give some, and stretch under load, but return to its original shape. If you don't want it to stretch, polyester rope is a better choice.

Bought 50 FT NYLON SOLID BRAID and ONLY GOT 44 FT
I bought a 50 FT DIA. 1/2" Nylon Solid Braid at Home Depot and only got 44 FT! Very disappointed about it! We expect an accurate measurement from a serious company. Apart of that, maybe to soon but seems to be good quality.

The rope looked extra good, nice packaging, etc.---but, I returned it and ordered 5/16 dia. instead in the same brand.

The rope itself was returned because I found at least 7 frayed/flawed spots in the 100' length right out of the box. T.W. Evans has some quality control issues and room for improvement.

              Likely not nylon, buyer beware
I tested the rope multiple different ways (dyeing, acid resistance, float test) and everything indicates that the rope is some kind of non-nylon plastic fiber. I reached out to TW Evans and they assured me it was nylon after reaching out to the rope mill, but I think empirical tests speak volumes :) If you *need* your rope to be nylon, I'd probably buy something else.

                Poor quality
When this rope arrived, it had a large number of defects where the rope was coming unbraided. It was not acceptable.
