Product Details

This fast growing tropical perennial shrub has bright green foliage and is prized for the profusion of phlox-like, sky blue flower clusters nearly year round, with peak from spring through fall. It mounds and uprightly climbs with branches that resemble vines, reaching about 5 ft. tall to 8 ft. W. Thriving in the Southern heat, plant this butterfly magnet in sun in a fairly well drained soil. Drought tolerant once established, be sure to water plants often the first few years. Enjoy this versatile beauty in sunny beds and borders, as a foundation planting, as a privacy hedge, even in containers set on decks and patios. This sturdy, evergreen shrub can be grown outdoors in USDA Plant Zones 9-11, in Zones 7-8, grown them in containers and store indoors to protect from frost and freeze. In other Zones, treat as an annual plant and discard at end of season.

    A:  Hi, thank you for your question, the answer depends on where you are located: This plant can be planted in the ground in USDA Plant Zones 9-11. For Zones 7-8, grown them in containers and store indoors during winter months to protect from frost and freeze. In other Zones, the plant will not overwinter and should be treated as an annual plant and then discarded at end of season.

            Disappointed
            I was very disappointed. The plant looked nothing like the photo. It was only 8 inches high versus the 18 inches proclaimed in the ad and had 4 sprigs sticking out of the dirt. It looked as if someone had put a starter plant in a 3 gallon pot. It was all soil with very little root ball.

I have had them a couple of weeks now and they are beautiful in my back yard. I love sitting out back watching the hummingbirds stop by for a quick snack!

            Although they did arrive alive, the plumbago I received were very small & had minimal root systems. They had obviously recently been repotted from a smaller pot to a larger pot. They shouldn’t have been sold as the 3 gallon size without allowing time for the plumbago to grow. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing plants from Home Depot online.
