Q:How do I gang two together?
by|Mar 24, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  On the boxes intended to be ganged together, remove the screw that holds the side panel on, for both, remove the panel, interlock the boxes together, and then replace the screw.

Q:How do you attach this to a stud? The plate screws on the side make it so it won't lie flat against the stud.

    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Boxes with plaster ears are generally not intended to mount to the side of a stud, because it makes drywall more difficult. For attaching to a stud, try the 501 which has holes in the side panel, or the 503 that has a welded bracket permanently attached.

This box is great for shallow walls and was my only option for 2" deep steel boxes in the store at the time.
The box has several knockouts on the tops and sides and can be secured to the wall with four screw holes on the top and bottom ears. Has ground screw hole, it is not raised. I used this box while installing a new outlet but the wall cavity (2x3" wall) was not deep enough for the original 2-1/2" deep box I intended to use, so I had to run to HD to pick up this one which fit the hole.
