Hello, According to your description that it ruined the clearcoat and no mention of the stain and color was affected, you need to use 1500 grit sandpaper to roughen the surface and apply Varathan polyurethane clearcoat to fix the damage, Our instruction is just a guide and we are not responsible for the end result.

Can this be stained a different color?
Hi, The surface is primed and sealed that will not create a proper bond, it will require a lot of messy light sanding in order for the stain to penetrate the veneer. Regards, Alex
